Miss when not on WOT
Miss when not on WOT
Hi all
Hoping you guys can help me. I'm getting what feels like a miss when going through the gears on light / moderate throttle (basically when not on WOT) when coming into boost.
I've done several logs and I think I've found the culprit, timing is dropping to -4 then climbing to +22 then it continues it's normal path. (Sorry I can't log boost, but the car is running 24-25psi on E85)
The problem doesn't exist on WOT. I've attached a screenshot and a copy of the log.
My timing map doesn't reflect what I'm logging and lean spool is disabled.
Thanks.

This could be your crank sensor going. One of buschur's personal cars had a similar problem and ended up blowing the crap out of the head gasket/ head. I don't know how to go about testing for this but it sounds similar.
Thanks for the reply.
In the mean while, I've checked my plugs and re-gapped them to back 0.024 inches (0.6mm) ... they were about about 0.028 inches (0.7mm), I think Mitsubishi must have re-gapped them when I get it serviced, because they were definately 0.024 inches when I had it tuned. I'll report the results back here after I've driven it a little more.
Also, to test the crank sensor I'll see if I can borrow a good known working one off a friend with an Evo IX and report back here. But I'll see how I go with the plugs first.
Edit: Just realised you meant Crank Angle Sensor, not Camshaft Position Sensor (changing the the CAS isn't as straight forward as the CPS)
