E85 and making power.
E85 and making power.
Hey guys,
I hate to ask a stupid question but here goes.
I always read E85 makes it's best power the closer to 11.8 - 12.0 you get?
So my question is .. If I'm too rich, say 11.2 afr WOT at 24psi and I make 360hp .. Will that actually go up any if it gets leaned out but still at 24psi and no change to timing?
Thanks for any myth debunking that may come.

Long story short..
360hp at 11.0 afr wot and 24psi on a dyno and 371hp from virtual dyno ..
(1st result was 369,
second result was 371,
third result was 369)
However after leaning out to 11.7 afr wot (still no knock either btw) VD said I did
(1st result was 381,
second result was 383,
third result was 383
all virtual dyno tests were on a highway from 2500rpm to 7500rpm.
But I wanted to make sure what I read many moons ago about leaning out to 11.8 to 12.1 yields the best results with E85
Thanks!

It sounds like you are wishing you had a drag tune, but may have not asked specifically for it. If you don't ask, you may very well end up with a more conservative tune than you wanted. Talk to your tuner. That's why tuners have ears, so they can listen to their customers!
Diirk knows his stuff about tuning; he has an excellent reputation. I would not second guess him w/o first discussing your situation with him. Did you ask for an on-the-edge drag tune? Or an extremely safe road-race tune? Or a middle-of-the-road street tune?
