Pros & Cons e85???
The Pros are well known
The Cons for me is the commitment that was needed for me to stay 100% on E85 (Been on it 3 years straight). Gas station availability. The inability to drive long distances w/out lugging extra gas.
I have dual map switching but not tuned for the 91 map. Oh, did I mention the injector gunk issue?
Have no plans on switching

Yeah I wish we had more e85 stations available through out cali. Like road trips n that's one big factor that kills it for me. I wonder if I can do a dual map for e85 n 91??? Sorry if its a dumb question but just got in to all of this n really don't know.
^^^For sure you can have dual maps in your ECU. I do, except Im just not tuned on the 91 map. I could use it in an emergency 91 fill but never have
Just have your tuner set you up. First, tune on the 91 w/all your updated mods. Then drain your tank & fill w/ E85 & have your tuner perform a second tune on that
I have a toggle switch in my glove box connected to the ECU. I believe you can run dual maps on the newer Tephra V7 & not have to wire in the toggle (Im on version 5). Just use your gas pedal to initiate the changes. Go see GST Motorsports in Hayward

The good is alot cheaper than race gas reduces knock and keeps the cylinders cooler the bad is availability and the driveability will not be as good atleast that's what I noticed with mine when I switched to it

Yep, definitely something that can be fixed with the tune. My cousin had this issue and brought it back to his tuner and he fixed it in about 5 min and never has to crank more than 2-3 seconds now when it's cold out (20 and below).
Just got tuned on E85.
The down side so far is the extra crank or 2 when the car is cold. Other than that I love it.
I also have a dual map tune so I'll run 92 Octane every now and again.

I take it you haven't seen this, Joe:

Cars operating on E85 usually experience a 25–30% drop in miles per gallon due to ethanol’s lower energy content.

That means if you try and daily drive on the stuff you will be filling your tank more often. 180 miles per tank is ****.
Ive had a bit of the gunk issue & on page 6 of the thread, pasted below, there is a good explanation to what the black gunk is: PIB, a cleaning additive in the regular gas
Sure, Ethanol is a great cleaning agent, but the regular gas portion seems to play a negative roll for some of us

This, and the injector gunk issue that happens to people sometimes. I run it and love it but I literally have to plan out my driving to make it by stations to fill up which is annoying... Really wish I did the regular map too when I got tuned with Tephra V7... oh well...
