Upgrading fuel system

Hey guys,

so I recently purchased a twinscroll 6266 kit for my evo 9. Before this I was looking to run ethanol. The only pump near me with it has an e70 mix. My current fuel setup consist of a 255 and FIC1100 high z injectors. My plan was to run that fuel system with my previous turbo setup using my new ethanol content gauge and a Hobbs switch to activate STMs fuel pump rewire kit. Knowing that the current fuel system will not be enough I bought a cleaned/used set of id1700’s. Now I’m looking to update the fuel pump. Probably go with the 525.

my current engine is still a stock block so I will be keeping torque below 400, but my question is will having a a single 525 work well? I’m looking at getting STM’s fuel rail and regulator kit. Ultimate goal will be 650 to 700 max once I build the block. Also should I run an external fuel filter with the ethanol? I would like to run the ethanol more then I do 91 pump gas.

so to recap the setup I have and looking to run is as follows
stock block
stock head with GSC S2 MIVEC cams and beehive springs
ported intake and throttle body
ETS twinscroll 6266 kit
now I will be looking to run the ID1700s with possibly the Walbro 525 with the STM fuel rail, regulator kit & rewire kit activated by the ethanol gauge and Hobbs switch.

any experiences with the id1700’s and the Wally 525? Is an external filter needed? Will a rewired 525 support 650 to 700? Which is a better option ID1700 or FIC1650?

The Walbro 525 will most definitely support 650 to 700hp. I use an even smaller pump than that (walbro 450) with 2150cc injectors and hit that hp range under 70% duty cycle and 35+psi of boost.

That’s good to know. I would like to keep the fuel system somewhat simple. I’m guessing you are still on the stock fuel lines?

Stock hardlines in the middle of the car, but I have a -6AN feed hose from the hardline to a radium fuel rail and a -6AN hose to the factory quick disconnect nozzle outlet at the fuel tank. You will need to modify the hanger to fit large pumps 450 and above.

Awesome thanks for the info. I have a spare hanger unit so I’ll start modifying it for bigger pump. I didn’t think about the outlet from the pump housing, although simple enough. I’ll have to look at where the stock rubber line connects to the factory hardline and make sure I have the correct stuff to make the connection.

what about an external filter?

You won't need an external filter because the stock fuel pump hanger actually has one built in as long as you follow the oem flow path. What you will need to do is drill out the venturi orifice with a 9/64" drill bit to keep from overrunning the stock fuel pressure regulator. The alternative is to get an adjustable venturi like this:

http://www.radiumauto.com/Venturi-Je...-Kit-P760.aspx

You need this because it draws fuel from the other side of your fuel tank which is shaped like a saddle. With a pump that strong though, I wouldn't mind just having an adjustable FPR and fuel rail for peace of mind.

Oh ok, I was under the impression that with a 450 and up pump an aftermarket regulator was recommended because of the stock one getting over run. Good to know it’s not necessary. I was going to get the STM kit which includes it but if not needed then I’ll just get the lines and rail with gauge

Don't get me wrong, you still want an aftermarket FPR for those pumps in addition to the venturi. Some people even go as far as wiring in a dual voltage circuit to maintain stock like fuel pump behavior (lower flow at idle).

Ahh ok makes sense. I plan to keep the Hobbs switch and ethanol content output to help activate the rewire kit. So that way the pump doesn’t have to be pulling full volts all the time

PAL215 Are you running the venturi that radium sells in your set up?

After my pump rewire I'm out running the return. -6 feed from tank to rail. 450 pump. 1650 injectors. I can't turn the fuel pressure down less then 58psi at idle. Before rewire i was able to. Drilled out the return to 9/64ths just as everyone else.

My question is will the venturi fix my issue or should i go through and get a bigger return line and switch to the full radium hanger assembly.

Shooting for 650-700 wheel as wheel.
