Setting up Wideband.

I havent bought a wideband yet, evoscan supports AEM UEGO.

What i want to know is, how does the gauge hook up to the lap top? through a wire obviouslyl, Is there a cable you buy that you crimp the wire in to and use the other end as a USB?

Also what is your guys take on the LC-1 without the gauge, i know you can log it and get your AFR, but what about when your not logging you kind of want to see your AFR right incase something happens?

For the LC-1, you can buy an add-on gauge from Innovatives Site. I think its like XD16 or something....

Its quite a bit of money but if you wanna monitor the AFR, its worth it.. i guess.

Any time I'm WOT, I'm logging anyway.

I got my LC-1 with gauge for just over 200 bucks.

To get the AEM to log, you'll need to take the analog output wire (white or blue I forget) and buy a serial cable. Solder the white/blue wire to a pin on the serial cable.

Hook up the serial cable to your laptop and set the com port correctly.

Then when you use evoscan or whatever logging software, set the type of wideband, and the com port to look for and it will log the values.

Do a search for how to make a serial cable on the AEM.

This is part of the reason why I got an LC-1. Comes with a USB cable.

Another option worth checking out is the Zeitronix. It is also supported by Evoscan and is capable of logging boost and EGT in addition to A/F ratios. I've been very happy with mine.

I have an LM-1 + LMA-3 (WB O2, 3bar Map, RPM plus the ability to log other inputs). Works great.

If I had it to do over again, I would have gone with a Zeitronix unit. Being able to accurately log MAP along with RPM and WB O2 is very useful. I'd go with the Zeitronix because it's compact, the optional display can show O2/MAP/EGT (unlike the XD-16 which only shows one at a time), and the boost sensor is potentially mountable in the engine bay (the LMA-3 must be mounted in the cabin).

I also should have went Zeitronix, I may be swapping the LC1 for it pretty soon.

Being able to log boost is ideal. Plus the display unit looks great.

Since this question seems to get asked a lot, here's the actual info from the AEM user manual. Follow these instructions to build the cable, then use a USB-->Serial adapter from Radio Shack/Best Buy/etc. if your laptop doesn't have a serial port. Piece of cake!

Damn thats an Ingrish translation from another language if I've ever seen one.. I do this stuff all the time, and that is a little hard to understand.

The LMA-3 has a built in 3 bar MAP sensor that allows you to log boost. I have an LMA-2 and a 3 bar MAP sensor and I log boost all of the time. I have two XD-16 gauges, one logs AFR and the other logs boost. The XD-16 has a large display and can be read even in direct sunlight. It also has an LED display. This is very good when it comes to boost.

I have mine set-up to tell me when I go from vaccuum to boost based on the change in the color of the LEDs. This has been very helpful in saving gas. When the car is in vaccuum the LEDs are green. The last LED before boost I set to blue and then the LED is red. When I am in gas saving mod I do not go above the blue LED. Finally Peak boost (21-22 psi) @ WOT is set to light blue.

While I have not tried it, I have read that the ZT2 display does not work well in direct sunlight. Do you know anything about that?

The aem uego intigration is flawless and allows me to do a true street tune. Blue wire and ground wire to the respective rx and ground cable on your serial cable and vuala. Just be sure to tell evoscan what com port to look at and that you are using aem uego. You can even run a hyperterm session and grab afr (in the aem uego manual)

It appears there is an evolution of educated Evo owners in the wideband market. Zeitronix is the best there is.

With the Zeitronix programmable audio visual warning and safeguard trigger there are endless opportunites to keep your motor safe and sound whether one meth injection, nitrous, nitromethane and the list goes on...

I'm actually thinking about switching to the Zeitronix as long as the 5v wideband output is programmable (configurable range) so I can still use it with ECU+ Although I love the TurboXS Tuner pro, and it has most of the same features (and it reads a wider range of AFR's than most, it can register 9.0 afr's) The head unit is somewhat large, and the wiring harness is alittle difficult to install and remove as needed.

Jack, I've been using the Zeitronix with the ECU+ fine. I believe you can also program the output.
