Interesting findings from a weird setup...

A local guy asked me to take a look at this tune at our last evo meet, He complained that he was lacking power.....

Upon further looking, i found he has a custom dynoflash flash and is ALSO using an s-afc.

He claims that he was tuned with stock injectors and turbo by dyno flash, then he upgraded to a white rabit turbo and 720cc injectors........ RRE tuned the s-afc for the new turbo and injectors..... Pretty nasty tuning setup if you ask me, regardless i was able to log his car, and i was seeing 20 counts of knock from peak torque and almost 30 counts of knock at 7500 rpm.......

I told the guy that i'm not expeienced enough to make any adjustments to his car, especially with 30 counts of knock...... The af/r's were in the 9's so i can't imagine how much timing the car is running :|

This guy needs to remove the s-afc and get a full reflash.....

Just thought some people might find it interesting that a respected vendor would sell a customer an s-afc ontop of a dyno flash, then tune it....... Scarry what people pay for these days!

What octane gas was he running? Meth? Could be a lot more to it than just a bad tune.

Well, the truth of the matter is, he probably wanted the safc or already had it. I think The vendor would make more money on a reflash / retune than on selling a safc. At the end of the day the customer is right, even when they are not, unless you just don't need to work for a living that is. :-)

Without altering the flash upgrading injectors and compensating with an AFC will cause knock. The AFC adjustments will put the car at lower load points and therefore higher timing targets. With a stock map, the timing targets at those lower load points are reasonably safe, but after a properly done custom tune they are likely far too aggressive. It is irresponsible for any tuner to retune for larger injectors with an AFC when the base timing map in the ECU has been made more aggressive.
