With my mods what should I be looking at in my map to adjust? The idle is already set at 1000rpm's. It just seems like its not getting enough fuel to catch it before stumbling and dying.

Still want to find out how to check if its the stepping motor.

Just an update but I took it out for a drive today and it wont stay running to save my life. Once at idle its fine, but going from a moving RPM to idle it just wont recover. My vacuum is also at 11 now, down from 15 with the other cams.

the servo is on the bottom of the throttle body under the upper IC hose. If you take the hose off, you can see the servo.

more info here, including pics of the old broken part...

While you are in that area, I would also recommend changing your throttle body seals especially if you have a high millage car.

My car tends to stumble exactly the way it was described earlier. It doesn't have a problem when I'm just idling. But whenever I get on the gas then slow down suddenly it stumbles down to near stall.

I had the same setup for near a year without a problem, then one day it just started. I checked my flash vs a stock flash, and none of the values beyond the timing and afr were changed. I bumped the rpms to 1000 in hopes of fixing this issue, but no dice.

For a long time I thought it was the BOV, but I had the BOV recirc prior to the problem without issue.

I've adjusted my maf scaling, injector scaling, I even tried to bandage it with an SAFC II before ECUFlash came out. I still cannot resolve the issue.

How can I check the idle stepper motor to see if it's bad? Should I just remove it, and spin it to see if it rotates?

NIevo, if you still have the stock intake, put it back on and see if it still stumbles. Which BOV are you running?

Also, check all of the idle target values in your ECU to see if one of them hasn't been overlooked.

Well 4-wheel slide took a look at my idle and it seems to be much better. Still fluctuates alittle but its not dying. Now however it keeps breaking up real bad when I boost 3rd and 4th gear over 6000rpm. Going to change the plugs and see if it helps.

I just had a car with a AMS turbo kit that would not idle well because of the intake. The O2 and air meter were fighting each other bad at idle.

What I did was set it to be on open loop at 500-1000rpm and set the map up a bit richer in the 1000-1500area upto 40load. The car will avg idle around 12.5 afrs and dip from 11.2-15.0 but it is as smooth as butter and you cant feel the or hear the AFR chages even though you see them on the wb.

I'm having the same problem with my car... the stock intake was fine but now with a 4" intake that idle sucks... I am playing with ecuflash and was wondering if it is a simple fix?

Any word on this yet. It just started happening to me too. I changed plugs..removed all pipes and cleaned any gunk found, next I am going to buy a new filter. I am still using stock intake pipe.

Start with the obvious things before the mosre costly things like the Stepper motor. IT can easily be the high temp, rpm settings on ur flash.

Ok i fixed mine. I changed one of the ecu flash settings to 1000 all the way thru and it stopped dying out. I think someone posted a pic of it earlier in this thread.

take some datalogs of the issues....post them up so we can see exactly whats happeing.

It could very well be a idle stepper motor failing, a vacume leak......or any host of other issues.

agreed. After changing my throttle plate seals, I needed a complete re-tune to undo all the tweaks that I had in place to work around the failing idle stepper motor.

The throttle plate seals are really weak, and only rated to ~22-25psi before they fail. Worse, with all the heat in the engine compartment, they will fail sooner than later.

If you mod you engine, you really need to replace these on every major service interval.

Anyone have a good pic of the idle stepper motor.. the part that's inside the TB. Mine had a bunch of nasty carbon crap all over it. It could be as simple as spraying some cleaner on it?

I'm not really sure how it works so how do I determine it's not functioning properly? I have mitsulogger/evoscan and such. I tried to take a pic but it didn't come out that great: http://www.justchil.net/gallery2/d/77027-4/000_0069.JPG

PS: I just found this which sounds like my exact problem: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...t=idle+stepper Now if only I could find a pic of what it should look like

Sorry for the hijack but I'm having the same problem more or less.
