Question Impact of LICP on Tune

I have a Nisei LICP on order and would like to ask a few questions of its impact on the tune.

1. What is the effect on the AFR of the car?
2. What is the effect on the boost?
3. My car has a TBE only. Will adding the LICP demand a walbro fuel pump?
4. Does the LICP produce any power gains. I have read about improvement in spool up, but I have not seen graphs of hp gains.

Thanks

NJ,

As long as you stay on the stock turbo with your IX, you shouldn't need a Walbro. The stock IX pump can flow enough for the stock turbo, based on the tests that AMS performed.

I agree with you here, and not to highjack, but what do you think about that if it were the FP Green?

I would say going with the fuel pump is smart and a good idea.

If I were in your place I would do the licp for now (if you really want it) and then do a walbro fuel pump an intake and a tune all at the same time.

You could also save up for the injen intake kit (include upper and lower icp, cone filter and intake pipe for around $390 depending on where you look) and do a tune after that.

From what I hear, the licp doesn't do too much by itself, but with all of the components in the injen kit you would probably see a difference on a graph.

Has anyone done a before and after dyno with the injen kit?

If you were going to max out the green, you would need an upgraded pump.

i agree here....
i am on with you here on this one, you dont need a pump for the 9 yet.

I have TBE and running 1.55 bar and my AFR are not leaning out at all!
i start on spool up at about 10.8 and redline is at 11.5-8

and there is still plenty fuel to add if needed!

+1. If someone does a search they will find data on this very forum which shows that the stock IX pump flows much better than the VIII and so you don't have to upgrade it to the walbro as soon.

To your original question Naji the LICP does seem to make some difference. On the dyno day in my sig there were two IXs with similiar mods and the only difference was LICP, one had it, one did'nt. Same tuner, similiar maps, simliar boost, difference of approx 5-10whp from what I remember. Maybe others can relay their experiences.

When I was talking with JB about my day that particular day he was saying that would be a good next mod because of its restriction. Should be getting mine next month (same one ironically )

Looked at some notes from David Buschur. He claimed that there was no or very little gain from the stock LICP. From his early tests the shorter licp that went into the back of thier deluxe ic made 6 whp. Although he stated that he doubted that the gains were real. Note that this was from quite a while ago (2004). He does now sell one where he swore that he would not.

BTW I have one. Fighters Garage. I put a few mods on the car in addition to the LICP so I have not idea how much the LCIP contributed to my gains.

I have the Nisei LICP for my VIII. I didn't have my Wideband on at the time so I couldn't do a AFR comparison before and after at the time. I really doubt it leans out a whole lot. One thing I noticed was faster spool up.

Below are some pics I took during my install to show the difference in diameter and routing of the LICP's.
