Patch Request: Pull Boost on Knock
Thread revived
With great advancements in ECU based boost control, as well as Tephra's alt-map, is there any way to trigger alt WGDC and other boost maps on a knock threshold? This, obviously, is or stock or GM solenoid users only.
Thanks, in advance!

??? we already have a low octane fuel/timing map that the ecu automatically goes to in the event of a high knock counts.
I recommend making a custom high octane map with lower timing values or richer afr if you know you're going to be running low octane fuel on purpose.

I know there is already a low octane fuel/timing... I think that a low octane boost would also be helpful to avoid disaster... particularly people running high amounts of boost via C16 or meth injection.

ok, I see what you're saying now... you want it to pull boost with the stock boost solenoid in the event of a bad knock count. Your first post didn't make sense to me.

yeah that would be pretty slick, sometimes timing reduction and more fuel can't quell significant knock....once it gets started it's like a freight train and doesn't want to stop.
I use a MBC so it won't do much for me but it's still a good idea, not sure if it's been discussed before or not.

that would be great. If there may be a relativly simple way to do it by having it reduce the target boost a user defined amount when a user defined knock count is reached, or even possibly have a 2d setting like
as opposed to having mutiple interpolating boost maps like mitsu would likley do.
Code:
knock count Boost mod (psi reduction)
2 2
4 3
6 5
Actually reducing timing does a much better job of reducing detonation. When dealing with a car that detonates and has no knock timing control I've noticed that I have to get completely out of boost to stop the knock. If your on the stock wastegate, you aren't going much lower than 15psi which really isn't going to get rid of any knock compared to pulling timing like the car does stock. However the knock does reduce octane value which reduces the boost level for a certian amount of time so the next time you go into boost your running less boost.

Also, you'll note that pulling a lot of timing but at the same time keeping high levels of boost will significantly raise EGTs. It could be very dangerous for a car which boosts very high to have a ton of timing pulled, while keeping boost.
Do some research on what EGT's actually mean and how they are used. Please don't be wary of high EGT's. If your ecu is pulling timing that is saving your motor even if EGT's skyrocket, trust me. I've had timing pulled back to 0 a bunch of times on both my dsm and evo. The dsm sees in excess of 30psi boost and the valves look better than people who worry about EGT's.
The best way to kill detonation is to lift. Get the knock flash light and train your brain to lift on knock and your golden.

Tephra, I'm reviving this thread because this may seem possible now with the use of ALT-MAP.
Is there a way to set a knock threshold that will look to the alt-maps for WGDC/Correction/Boost ?
