Question to the CEL flash mod people.

Ok so for those of us who did the CEL flash once knock reaches a certain threshold. When we are out there tuning we obviously try to go for 0 knock period. My actual question is ever since i did the mod, i tuned my car for pretty much 0 to 3 counts of knock. So everything is cool when im out on my strip of road doing my pulls. Then when i go to drive it regularly i set my knock sum to 5 with a requierd load of 140. What i noticed is im actually getting more knock then i thought i was. I actually take a mental head count of how much it flashes, ( i dont count the possible shift knock flashes). And its shocking from 1 friday night of cruising for an hour or so i had it flash 10+ times on me. (10 instances of being in the middle of a pull that it started knocking).

So my ultimate question to you guys is now that you have the mod how often do you notice it flash, and what do you set the requierd knock count to as well as what load? Throw in your 2 cents and experiences. What pisses me off the most is when i go out and relog my pulls seem almost perfect only 1 out of every 10 or so will make it flash. (5 counts+).

I have mine set a 3KS and it's off...i have mine flash for 5 secs, i also tied it to an LED so when the seS light flashes so does the LED. I'm glad I have the mod...however i tune for 0 knock ...during tuning its annoying lol...

I have mine set for 3 counts and 120% load and it has been accurate to my logs I am currently tunning out some occasional part load knock but under normal non aggressive driving I will see it flash only on rare occasion. on aggressive pulls I see it flash about 50% of the time but my ignition maps are being dialed in now that I finally have my afrs dialed in.

settings- 180 load, 5 KC AND 1000ms for flash time (very important)

You need to set it for a short time to be really accurate. Otherwise it just flashes for a long time after the knock is gone. Also you can tell if it sustains or goes away with a short flash time. You'll get a lot of let off throttle knock. Also you'll get part throttle knock too, until you tune it out.

Mine is set for 3 knock counts and 100 load. I've found a lot more knock than I thought I had also. I'm tuned for road racing, so am tuning for zero knock also. My WOT pulls in 3rd and 4th are great (ie no knock), but I'm finding knock (up to 6-7 counts) at partial throttle loads. Just need to tidy up some areas of my maps.

You better check your afr, before I added the patch my afr was bouncing around 11.0, then once added, I went to test it and I saw my gauge in full boost showing 12.0 The good thing is that it did not knock until I hit high rpm around 6300. Just my experience, I had to retune afr after the knock patch even though I never messed with lean spool before, only changed the lower rpm from 1500 to 2500 before the patch. It does work flawlessly once corrected though.

Like most of you, I've got great WOT (0 or 1 knock) and some occasional partial throttle knock of 2 or more.

mine is set @ 100 load 4 counts of knock. every once in awhile it will blink at partial throttle, between 100-140 and only about 4-5 counts I'm still trying to eliminate it but it never blinks at WOT

ya tuning out part throttle is a biatch, I am glad i am not the only one in this boat. Once you actually get a visual notification in your face it makes you stop and think wow i really get a lot more knock then i thought i did. Whats really ridiculous is the 5th gear partial throttle for me i think it knocks almost every time on the freeway, I really need to get things sorted out.

I think evokid has a point as far as the 1 second flash, so you know if it was from shift knock or just a minor section through your rpm range, rather then setting the timer for 10 seconds or something. Oh well im no longer frustrated since all of you guys have to deal with the factor of lots of partial throttle knock as well.

just bump up your load - ie my settings are 150load, 4knocksum... regular driving I never see the CEL flash, on the track I sometimes see it...

Yeah i find that 3 seconds is REALLY long. I am going to try for a second or even half a second to see when it is really happening. I also have it too sensitive so it goes off a lot, usually under part throttle when i am not doing much.

I am currently at 100% load, 3KC, but plan on moving to higher load and higher knock. Great mod though.

Ir's good to see that I am not the only one with part throttle knock and near 0 counts on cotrolled pulls/runs. If you stab the throttle while cruising it induces knock more on a tuned car than on a stock one (I realize "prolly" obvious). I went to a less aggressive fuel map and timing curve and I am not seeing the random 5 counts anymore. I am currently set to three counts and I see them only if I am real aggressive on the throttle. i just got my wideband from being repaired so i'll be able to log more and see what is going on. I beleive that under 4k rpm if you are not smooth with throttle that knock will occur quite freuently on a more aggresivley tuned car.

I set the threshold for measurement low so I can see more knock if in fact it's present. Changing to higher values will simply not allow you to see what is going on more of the time
PS Thanks Evokid I was thinking about reducing the flash time and it's good to hear it has been tested and allows you to see more multiple episodes of knock.
