help asap

sorry if this is a repost. if my laptop had a virus could it get into my ecu? the reason i am asking is i went add some timming and such and everything is all messed up.the car will hardly run. i didnt even change anything. i pluged it in and it just started going crazy. i had my wireless card in and the computer it just started opening page after page of websites.

I wouldn't advise flashing your car if your laptop isn't 100%... the last thing you want is to have a partial flash (either because the battery died or blue screened or for whatever reason couldn't finish) and you're stranded with a car that won't run.

It's fixable of course, but it could be a huge inconvenience if you're out somewhere, you go to flash, and the laptop dies... now you're getting a tow.

As far as a virus actually getting into your ECU, that's highly unlikely

Can you describe what kind of problems you're having? Do you have a CEL on ? What are your mods?

Even if the virus got there (which it could by simply infecting the file to be flashed) it wouldn't be able to do anything. ECU would have a fun time trying to interpret it though .

Either way make sure your computer is working properly before doing the flash.

the car is running pig rich black smoke and up down idle. no power when i put it in gear and let off the clutch it die's i loaded a fresh install of windows xp on my laptop and no i need to get tunning software again my buddy loaded it on there befor and he dont have it anymore so till the im sol

What are you using to tune? You can download ECUFlash from openecu.org so you can load it yourself.

nothing related to the flash...did you happen to check if one of your IC pipes came off somehow?

+1, if you're running pig rich and can't accelerate, then it's likely a blown IC pipe.
