I forgot to mention if you can accept a 0-5v input into the rear O2 pin. It would be nice in the future to have a "meth controlled" patch which has:
  • Load adjustable output trigger (using ICS relay output..I think all ECU's can do this?)
  • Flow sensor monitoring input for datalogging(replacing rear O2 input pin with flow sensor pin)
  • Failsafe map switching or interpolation (ADC input)

I know thats a future patch but I wanted to ask about the rear O2 input before I forget.

Is there a huge benefit to doing the wiring this new way versus the older way with just a 220k resister? This new way makes the install more complicated for the setup I'm going to be doing and I'm just wondering if it will be worth it for me.

tested V5 as much as I could for the IX, some items not tested yet due to crappy weather. I have reported my findings to tephra. It looks and works great. woohoo, alt maps on a IX!!!

The only difference really is the fluctuation in voltage. With the 220K ohm resistor, you're input voltage is effected by the battery voltage level. It can swing as low as 3.9 volts when the car is off (or alternator craps out) and go as high at 5 volts. As long as you set the map switching set point to lower than say, 3.5 volts you shouldn't have any issues. The switching point is in 8 bit (or 1byte) and is adjustable from 0 to 255, with 255 being 5 volts. So 3.5 volts would be around 178.

The newer designhas a much tighter voltage window and you are only limited to the +/- 5% tolerance of the 5.1 volt Zener diode so the lowest you'll generally see is 4.8 volts. The nice thing is, no matter what the voltage ends up being with the zener diode, it will always be THAT voltage, regardless of the battery voltage of the car.

I ordered some 5.6 volt zener diodes with +/- 5% tolerance which should be here this week which might solve the issue of the switching voltage ever being below 5 volts (aka 255 in the settings). If the ADC input can safely handle a max of 6.0 volts, than the 5.6 volt zener diodes would guarantee that our switching voltage is ALWAYS over 5.0 volts .

Hope this makes sense to you guys, lol.

Note: If you want to make your own and you can find an inexpensive 5.1 volt zener diode somewhere with a +/- 1% tolerance (or a 5.3 volt with +/- 5% tolerance), thats the best bang for the buck. Everywhere I looked either doesn't stock them or they have a HUGE minimum order.

Alright. Well I think I'll just wire up the 220k resister per the wiring diagram I made with richard@ aquamist and see how that works. If I have any switching issues, I'll re-wire with the diode in it, that would not be too much extra work. I just like the super simple wiring design that I have in mind now, just a single wire running from my DDS box to the ecu for pin 42.

Well, it was actually Richard who reminded me about using a zener diode to regulate the voltage after you talked to him. Like I said, as long as the switching point is set low enough, you should be ok.

I have a local electronic store that has the diodes cheap...if anyone needs a handful I can get them. I'll wait for you to complete your testing with the diodes before I make my purchase.
(Car has been down and out...getting her back tomorrow. Missed her. New clutchy time.)
