ECUFlash timing/knock
ECUFlash timing/knock
Is there a general rule of thumb to follow when adjusting timing on an Evo8 using ECUFlash in the High Octane timing map to combat logged knock? ie. 1-3 knock sum = 1* retard timing in the predetermined load cell, 3-5 = 2* and so on...
I believe you're right on 1-3 counts is about 1 degree of timing to get rid of.

Thats what the ecu does. Pull 1* of timing for every 3 counts of knock it sees. So yes. If you are seeing 3 counts pull 1*. Might start pulling 2* and then do back to back runs to see if its ALL cleared up tho.
Keep in mind that more retard is require to eliminate detonation once it happens than is required to prevent it in the first place. This is why it's best to work ones way toward the detonation threshold as opposed to working away from it.
Makes sense to start with what's close to the high knock sums. Definately some useful info. I am getting close to 5-6 counts in the higher rpm range. I do only have a emailed flash though.
I'm off to tune, log and a see what i can accomplish.
