Detectability
Detectability
Hypothetical situation:
Guy has a Bone Stock Evo IX. Guy saves original rom, and then reflashes ECU for better power and fuel economy. Guy needs warranty work done and reflashes original ROM to ECU.
Question: Is there any way possible for Mitsu to detect that the ECU was ever reflashed?
Reason I am asking is someone said they can pull your ecu data and look at your "check sum" number.

They honestly wouldn't check unless they had a reason too ... my understanding is that if there is an issues that might have to do with the ECU they just flash the stock or updated ROM. Normal diagnosis doesn't include checking the ECU for changes.
Even if it did, I'm pretty sure there is no way to see if it's been flashed before or how many times.

Im not a ecu disassembler master. If you did flash the original rom back, then any checksums will be ok because its the stock rom. I dont think mitsu techs are allowed to use ecuflash or tactrix cables. They are probably restricted to the lame MUT hardware which is all very basic. It looks like a Nintendo Gameboy Cobb Accessport. Lol.
yeah the current thinking is they can't detect the flash - or cant tell the difference between a flash and a battery disconect.
that being said it probably wouldn't be too hard for them to implement something, like an internal counter on the chip of some kind. however I doubt it, mitsu probably didn't think that flashing would be as mainstream as it turned out to be..

The easiest way to tell if the car is a flash virgin or **** is how easy an OBD-II connector goes on the port, No Joke.
I can always tell if a car has been flashed prior (or at least multiple times, but less than 3 or 4) because I have to fight the connector instead of just hooking it up.
