Knock Filter 1 is Purge Control?
Knock Filter 1 is Purge Control?
I have been doing a bit of theorising on what the leftover 3D tables are in our roms. Independantly I figured out EGR duty are two of my "knock filter" tables, but afterwards found a thread already talking about this (I should have searched). So what do the rest of the tables do? Standing back and looking at the tables with an open tuners mind I am finding that the table labbelled in almost all of the roms as Knock Filter 1 seems to correspond to the documentation in the factory workshop manual about how the duty of the signal should be for Purge Control. Has anyone else found this to be the case, or better yet has anyone at all looked into it. Can any of the smarter people here find a way to Evoscan log the values used in Knock Filter 1.
The point is not in tuning the purge control which is rather useless for performance tuning, but rather to one-by-one eliminate the tables so we can zoom in on the real knock control system which is far more useful.
The workshop manual lists the system as referring to Airflow, Coolant Temp, Air Temp, and Baro Pressure.
Anyone?

Would seem likely that the knock control would be referenced in some way by the timing, fuel and octane routines. Not a great help I know, but might give a starting point to start looking.

Nah its not that. What I am getting at is that alot of the maps we have are mislabelled and the most common of the mislabelled maps are the so called knock filters. Only around half of them have anything to do with knock. EGR duty 3D maps are part of them, usually labelled as Knock Filter 2 or 3, or even both. Purge control is usually 3D mapped duty as well, and there are no more 3D maps left to decypher except for the Knock Filters. Part of getting the knock control... well... under control, is to eliminate what we dont need to control. So taking an overall look at Knock Filter 1 it looks alot like what would be expected for a purge control duty map. Baro Pressure (x) vs Engine Load (y) ?? I just need to do some logging of it to check.
Guys here are the 5 purge maps.

Are you sure about them? I would have thought it is over the top to use 4 full 3D maps just for purge. How were these maps found?
Thanks, I will do some testing and see how I go. In my rom they are labelled as Knock Filters 7,8,9,10 so it will keep me busy over the next few days. :-)

Well bugger me, you were right!!! My Knock Filter 7 and 8 are definitely Purge Control for 5Hz and 10Hz respectively. The other maps I am yet to test but they do look promising. That eliminates a bunch of maps, so I am quickly narrowing down the true knock maps.

I found the tables corresponded to these axis. X = Load (10 to 100) and Y = RPM (0-2000 and 0-4000). With varying load I could remap and see an effect. This is done with a pressure gauge on the purge line to visually verify. Next step will be to scope the signal wire to the solenoid.
What is the exact purpose of the second set of 5Hz and 10Hz maps? It looks like some kind of maximum possible flow having larger numbers in the high vacuum (low load) areas.

Not sure, does anyone know when a new version of ecuflash is coming out? If we can put in requests my tuner would love live tuning if possible.

This would be a huge step in resolving what i would consider one of the final differences between the factory and an aftermarket ecu.
Let me know how this goes. If we can offer up some testing yell out.
Im also going to chase up the Real knock maps.
