table cuestion!

im trying to read the tables, but its in load, i cant determine where the car runs, could i change it to psi? i know its a stupid question but i really want to know what means each load and the values approx on psi. also how the computer know when to change from high octane to low octane on the tables?
thanks for your help!

you need to read the "how to tune a evo" thread, theres a lot of good info in it. to find out what load your car is hitting you have to log your wot pull (usually in 3rd gear).

your statements don't make sense. your vehicle is gonna be in the high octane map if you are WOT

Octane number says the amount of interpolation of maps in question. I hope this answers your question.

So why is a low octane map with 255 load? it make sno sense?

I don't mean to be rude but if you cant figure this out you really shouldn't be trying to tune your car.

i am not positive on when and why your vehicle switches maps. from what i hear many people don't now that exact reason or when it switches maps.

from a theory i have read is that the low maps are basicly safety maps that your vehicle switches to when you are knocking. so basicly your low octane fuel map should be slightly richer than your high octane. Same for timing, make the low octane iginition map be more conservative and have less timing advance.

that is all i know and hopefully a guru will chime in.

The understanding is that the ECU will start to interpolate between the high and low octane map as soon as the "octane number" is decreased. If I recall correctly it takes 5-6 knock sum to start decreasing this number. I also believe it starts at 255 then decreases from there.

You will never run completely off the low octane map unless there is an error in the system. An example is if you disconnect the knock sensor. The system will report and error and it will run 100% off the low-octane map and also run 0% duty cycle on the boost system.

If the car is of full health and tuned correctly, you need not worry about the low-octane maps at all.

which tables do u want to change?

changing the scaling on the load based tables to PSI would just be wrong - load does not equate to PSI...

edit - 400hp? on racegas yeah?

Very very roughly, below 100 load is vacuum, above 100 load is boost. But really you should keep the scale in load as it is more representative of what the ECU is seeing. If you do some logging with 2 byte load you'll see how the load changes during different driving situations.

Could be 400bhp at the flywheel.

So 500 BHP at the fly...on a stock turbo.....how much boost are you running for that?
