Couldn't tune it.
Did a reputable shop do the work? I knew quite a few people in the DSM community that got overbored with JE pistons and if you don't bore to JE specific specs you get horendous piston slap. Knock sensors have a field day with that.

I always hear people talk about tapping causing knock but mine was banging around like nuts at one time when I had those bars underneath the downpipe and never once set off knock best I could tell.

How much of this phantom knock is related to the rattly clutch spring phenonomen JohnBradley posted about recently?

Steve Knight (South Australian EVO racer/tuner) mentioned he has been patching the values of timing pulled on knock for some time now, to good effect.

going from stock clutch to exedy twin didn't add any knock for me, then I did the tubular header and it began, I changed to the tilton twin carbon and it didn't worsen. I went to the BR 2.0 and I THINK it may be slightly worse, the tone of the car definitely changed.

i still have my balance shafts also

just now i replaced my gutted br cat with a second bullet muffler and it seems that the phantom knock quieted down a little bit, its still most definitely there though

I cant wait for this patch to be done

Not sure what shop. I do agree with the build quality possibly being the main thing here.

yeah..... i have to be careful if there are any hairpins where the rpms drop to far. really makes concentrating on driving fast difficult because im always having to watch my cluster

I often get shift knock or knock when using the two step and launching.

I think these issues could be addressed if a load & RPM limit were implemented for knock control. However, you might have to make the load and RPM cutoff pretty high to avoid 2-step knock.

What about making it so that when the clutch is depressed knock control is turned off. That seems like the simplest way to ensure no knock during shifts or two step without having to make an artificially high load cutoff for knock control.

I think the ECU inherently ignores shift knock anyway. It might pull some timing but it should go back to normal when you are back in gear (with higher load - lower timing) and the octane number should require consistent knock so it shouldn't throw anything off.

mmm I am trying to do a rpm/load table that allows you to factor the knock, ie 0% will disable the ignition retard based on knock completely whereas 50% will turn 6 knock into 3 (just for the IGN retard)

its in progress anyways
