Question Is the 97250001 ROM patchable?

might sound like an odd question, but I'm in the middle of fitting a USDM VIII ecu on my JDM VI. Since I'm hoping to take advantage of as many of the disassembled features like flat shifting, launch limit, knock tuning (it's a stroker and might need some help), map switching etc that tephra, jcsbanks, etc have contributed to, i wanted to know if this ROM could be patched in the future. It is a Ralliart JDM VIII GSR map, and has been used in successful swaps before as can be seen here Successful USDM Evo 8 ECU swap into Evo 6 TME

thanks

i took a look at your link...

you should be able to just upgrade for a popular flavor of USDM EVO8 ROM. either 015 or 006 etc depending on ECU revision (probably NON-ACD)...

the egr and immob issues can be resolved via periphery modification. other than that am i missing something like cam/crank/injector/ignition compatibility w/ EVO6? should be a 1 for 1 swap.

thanks for the reply. no you are not missing anything. with just a few wire swaps in a patch harness as outlined in that thread the car will start right up and run fine. i just know of other individuals that have gone with a usdm 8 rom that seem to have a little more difficulty resolving ecu error codes like o2, but maybe they weren't doing things right. maybe i should give it a try and find out for myself.

after thinking about it, were you suggesting i put the evo 8 rom on the evo 6 ecu? if so that's not possible as it's a different processor etc and ecuflash can't flash it only ecutek. this is the whole purpose of fitting a newer ecu on the car.

i bought a used USDM viii ecu. how do i indentify the revision? as far as i was aware the acd ecu is a completely separate unit and not related to the main ecu so acd or not wouldn't have any bearing on whether the swap would work.

no, i was still speaking on only the evo 8 ecu.

what year car was the ecu from?

then you can choose the rom version ie: 94170015 for 03 and 04 etc. just dump the rom it has on it right now and post it up.

good luck.

ok finally got around to pulling the rom which turns out to be a 96420007 ID, yuk, on a mitsu MN191022 ECU. from reading another thread it looks like this ecu may not take take the later 9417x roms and tephra's patch very well. there is some mention of disabling the immboliser code allowing startup and mine will be disabled anyway since it's a VI without an immoboliser key.

so now i still don't know if the 97250001 is patchable, or if the an original 96420007 ecu can be upgraded to a 94170015 rom for patching.

utimately i need to at least have a ROM on this ecu that will allow the immobiliser, egr and rear o2 disabling and the new jcsbanks tunable knock control since it's a stroker and might not react well with the ecu.

anyone with ideas of what i should do?

for anyone interested in this thread.. a quote from tephra over in another... at time of this post 94170015 is most supported.

in which case you can run whatever 7/8 ROMID you like.

so pick one that has the most support and try flashing it (with immob disable of course)

dont forget to copy any maps you need!

as per RoadSpike in the other "are all 03 and 04 roms the same" thread, you can upgrade to 94170015 making sure you disable the immobilizer.

good luck

being USDM, you probably have to make provisions for an OEM MDP sensor or upgrade to a 3bar or something. there's probably other little things here and there--most that can be disabled from the periphery, but i'm sure you got'em figured out...
