ECUflash Newb Question Help!

I recently had my car retuned at AMS and I have been downloading my tunes to save them on my computer as a means of backup in case of damage to the ecu or a factory reflash. I went to do my download today and I am receiving an error message that says check the log. I believe the log is just that long list of code and it said something like 'attempted code 1' then 'no know code' or something to that effect. I have never had any problems downloading before. I am plugging in the two plugs from the tactrix, then turning the ignition to ON, then quickly clicking read. I know my computer is communicating with the car because I was able to run ScanTech and delete an engine check code I had. I am pretty thick on this computer/ car stuff so sorry for the likely stupid question, but I would really like to download the tune.

BTW I have Version 1.35.1650

Any ideas I can try? Thanks!

Your ECU must've been tuned with ECUTek or something similar that can prevent you from reading it with ECUFlash. Search for a program called Mitsubishi ECU Unlocker for ECUFlash.

I have had a previous tune with AMS and was able to download the tune to my computer no problem. Do you think some kind of software/ firmware update to their tuning software might change my ability to download? I will check out that program anyway, thanks.

why don't you turn the ignition on first before click on EcuFlash read button? Like others mentioned, you need to find out which program is used to tune your car. It's likely one of the only two, EcuFlash (which can be locked) and Ecutek.

I had similiar problems, I would go to aktivematrix.com and DL ecuflash unlocker as stated above. Run unlocker then run ecuflach then try it.

if his car was tuned at AMS, it was tuned with EcuFlash. AMS does not do anything funny that would prevent you from reading out your ROM, so I am guessing the problem is user or hardware related.

I wrote that incorrectly, yes I have been turning the ignition to ON before hitting the read button per the ECUflash on screen instructions.

I did not have any problems downloading and saving my first tune from AMS or the stock map. I also just got done trying to download again, this time with the unlocker running in the background with no luck. This is exactly what is logged after one attempt to read:

I will call AMS tomorrow to see if they have any insight as to why I cant download this map if no one on here can help a brother out. If someone has the time to write out the proper read steps in computer illiterate form, that would be appreciated as well, though I do think I am doing this correctly as I have done it twice before...

Also, I do not believe I have any hardware issues as the tactrix/ computer will communicate with the car through the OBD ScanTech software. Thanks again all for your help thus far.

I don't think AMS would want you to backup your ECU so I'm not sure if they would give you a straight answer.

Maybe ECUTek updated their software to prevent ECU Unlocker from working?!

Does your car start? Every time I had that issue and the car started it was because the V wasn't high enough. If your car doesn't start, then you have a corrupted rom. Or it could be a shatty cable.

Actually could you elaborate a little more on this. Before I got retuned this time I switched over to a mini battery (ETS value). Is it possible I am not getting the same voltage on ignition ON as before? How can I correct this? I have a battery charger that I can run off a wall outlet if I need full sized battery power if anyone thinks that would help. Maybe turn the car one when i turn the ignition to ON or will this not allow the ROM to be read? This might be my issue! Please more info! Thanks as always all

If your car starts, then your rom isn't corrupted. That's that. If you can't read/flash with ecuflash, then it's the cable or your voltage. Try hooking up jumper cables to get good voltage. If it still doesn't work with jumper cables on, then your ecu is locked, bad cable, or fault in ecuflash.

I would assume you mean starting while still plugged in as my car is running fine. Im thinking its the voltage issue and I will have my buddy put some jumper cables on my car and try to pull the tune. I hope this works!

I'm using my PC from my work and after they did some updates I have the same problems as you describe.
