so i have a 03 evo 8 and the other night my buddy who also has a 03 evo 8 was going to flash my car and the cable and program works fine on his car but when he plugs the program into my car and the box pops up but you cant push the read button. My buddy seems to think that maybe the dealorship has locked the ecu, but i have read about the voltage thing and wondering if that could be my problem or if the dealorship just sucks and locked my ecu. Also, looking for a program that could unlock it if possible.

 

probably an aftermarket vendor locked it out so noone can steal the maps

 

anyway to get it unlocked

 

same problem on mine 03 evo8, use to work fine then all of a sudden it doesn,t. the only one that has mess with my ecu was me ,
so wats up with this?

 

You can always push the read button.

If it times out, then you may need the unlocker tool.

 

i dont think ECU's can be offically locked

what does the box say exactly?

3 things:

1. make sure u have the unlocker program running in the background BEFORE you open ecuflash.
2. make sure ur battery has full charge (the car that is) apparently there is a voltage issue when reading the ECU.
3. Lastly, make sure the car was on previously and warm(let it idle for a couple mins before trying to read from it.

Other than that, reinstall ecuflash using another version and make sure BOTH plugs are in (white and black)

 

i am going to try again this weekend i will update if i have any success
