Knocking Issues at Low Rpm/Low Load

Hey i need help because i really do not know where to trouble shoot this. My car knocks randomly between 2700-3100 RPM like right when the turbo is about to spool.

Ive been trying to figure out what is causing this and decided that i would throw in some race gas and see if it still occured. I put in some 110 octane today and it is still knocking at the same exact spot.

Is this false knock? Someone also told me it could be caused by a bad coil pack?

Any help you guys can give me would be much appreciated.

I have the exact same problem. 94170008, 03 EVO stock except Apex-i cat back with 200cpsi metal cat + TME RS turbo. It almost always knocks just above 120 load from 2500~3000rpm. I suspect this is caused by Lean spool, because it is enabled from 2500rpm, and from 120 load value.

I am thinking about checking the coil packs myself also, but my car has only about 30k miles (although several track events so far), and I do not see knocks at higher loads/rpm with proper timing.

I guess I may have to further richen up AFR of 140 load cells at 2500 & 3000 rpm? It is set to 12.06 & 11.07 now, while stock ones are 12.80 & 11.07.

have you guys added in the new knock tables ? They helped me out a lot. My car is just plain loud at idle and driving. Between the flywheel and solid mount it makes for some noise.

Im not sure if you guys are having the same issue as me but it cant hurt to try.

You should probably verify the Knock with Det. cans before assuming It's phantom.

Basically It's a set of head phones attached to the engine block.

This is what one of our fellow members did...

Update: I tried logging after richen up those two cells further, and I got more knocks. I found the mrfred's post about my knock problem.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/7060895-post12.html

It seems I am getting rich knock during spool up, and as mrfred described, I get small # of knocks over several hundreds of rpm.

I am not sure whether this is the case for you mindoftw, but I guess it is worth checking.

Mine is at 14.1 afr in the 2500-3000 at 120 load cell. You may want to lean it out a bit more not rich. The stock map is to rich and to aggressive on timing. And maybe lower the timing a degree or two.
