How Important is a 3 Bar MAP?

I want to start learning how to tune. And since my car needs one I feel that's an appropriate place to start. I have an AEM WB, Boost Gauge, and a laptop, but how important is it to upgrade to a 3 bar map sensor? None of the tuners I spoke to about getting my car dyno tuned mentioned it so I'm just wondering how necessary it is.

You want one if you want to use any of the better ecu based boost control toys... ever. Or if you would like to be able to tune a car yourself. I would certainly recommend it.

If the car is being dyno tuned, most likely they will just plug a map sensor in stream somewhere.

But if you are going to want to log / know where the car is / tune it yourself. You want one.

Only get one if you want to run ECU-controlled boost or want to be able to log your boost for some reason. Overall, not really important at all for tuning as long as you have a boost gauge and know where you're peaking.

Unless of course if you have a gauge that doesn't read boost accurately.

I plan on tuning the car myself so I picked up a GM 3 Bar MAP Sensor today.

This was the right move.

Logging boost > watching a boost gauge

^^ x2

or want to make sure that your boost gauge is doing its job correctly.

for logging it owns, for tuning, same story.

If you already have the wideband and a laptop, there is no reason not to get one

I can tell you this, My profec B spec II reads about 1.5 psi more than the JDM map, so all this time I thought I had been running 26 psi, I was actually reading about 24.6 psi...

I know I saw it somewhere but I've searched all day and can't find the install instructions for the GM MAP Sensor. How do I log with it? I know have to change some info in the ROM but I have no idea what and also what electrical and vacuum connections have to be made for Evoscan to be able to read it's signal?
