the first one i did an identical pull right after with 0 counts... the second one is trying to hold 10PSI the car felt horrible.

Is the BOV fluttering while you maintain boost?

grumble grumble grumble....

I bought this "stock" 38000 mile car which proceeded to spin a bearing 3000 miles later. I've always noticed that it seemed to have a lot of compressor surge for a stock car... On a hunch I went digging for pictures of stock EVO's and the BOV orentation... The BOV was installed backwards! I never took it off of the intake pipe "so i wouldn't get it backwards"

I guess when they took this car back to stock they did it wrong. Damit I've been trying to tune around this for 2 weeks now. It's too late to log right now but i just went for a drive and it's SOOOOO much smoother.

I had the plugs gapped down to .020 to keep it from missing but that could've been BOV related too... what BS!

This is my 4th turbo car... it just never occured to me that it would've been removed and put back on totally wrong. Asstards.

What made you decide to ask that cause it was spot on?

False knock will typically appear when its not in boost, but I have seen it with BOV that either incorrectly installed or malfunctioning and fluttering. I have had knock, P0300s, all sorts of stuff happen because of BOVs and their affect seems magnified from some intake kits. Its almost always at part throttle that you'll see it as well, nail the gear and its not there panzy through it and it comes back.

Well thanks man lets hope that's what it's coming from that would be REALLY great. Wish I woul've posted a long time ago. I was getting "closer" by taking timing out but then i got those 2 logs today driving home and it seemed worse than ever. Maybe now i can put a tiny bit of timing back in. I hope so.

Can you get false knock if using a VTA BOV?

Well it's smoother but it hasn't really changed the knock situation... There just doesn't seem to be any consistency to it and once it's gotten a few counts the pull is shot to hell... about 1 pull in 5 is clean without changing anything.

welcome to the world of a noisey 2.3..hehe.. seriously though i had all kinds of partial throttle knock with mine. i listened with det cans, added race fuel, reduced timing and nothing seemed to improve it or identify it as real knock. i even went from a forge bov back to a plastic stock unit.. in the end tweaked the knock tables buy up to 30% but it still shows up every now and then, but usually just a 3 count. i'm not sure this is going to cure your 18 count though..gl

I just put in 1/4 tank of race gas (from basically on E) and it didn't change a thing... I'm ready to call it false knock.... I guess.

Running 11.1 to 11.4 AFR's
Running 0 degrees timing
Running something around 100 - 102 octane

It doesn't happen as much when the oil is "cool." I might try upping my oil weight...

What oil are you running?

it's probably unlikely to be knocking with that timing on higher octane. do you not have access to a set of det cans? care to post a pic of your timing map. just want to make sure you aren't transitioning between large changes in timing, which can induce false knock. you may also want to try logging and graphing the parameters described here https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...-problems.html as it will give us an idea of just how noisy your engine is and if changing the knock multiplier values would be beneficial.

Maybe my transition aroud 3000 - 4000 and 100 load is too great? The knock seems to happen at much higher load values though.

I REALLY want to be able to run SOME timing. Right now the car is not smooth and is not making any power at all when the knock happens and is only making a tiny bit more when it's not knocking.
