Can we get an ECU How to sub-forum?
from: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...-tuning-5.html
Many people seem to be thinking the same thing, but nothing is being done about it. Most technical threads are being cluttered with trivial questions, just because they see lots of traffic. This speed density tuning thread is just one example. The 1000+ post TephraMod V7 thread is another.
Is it time for a new sub-forum under EcuFlash?
There is this:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...ead-links.html
but I think a dedicated "ECU Setups: How to..." sub-forum would be better.
With things like: "How to..."
~Add entries in EcuFlash
~Add entries in EvoScan
~Wire in the MAP sensor
~Wire in the IAT sensor
~Wire your WBo2 into the rear o2 input
~Properly disable Lean Spool
~etc.
Write ups similar to the "How to Scale you MAF" that was so popular.
Quality how tos that show PICTURES of what you're talking about.
Let people submit their own write ups directly into the sub-forum, just like the parts installation how tos. Maybe even require a moderator review that requires an approval before it's officially posted. Just to make sure it's up to this forum's standards.
I mean, really. How long would it take for someone who knows what they're doing, to take photos as then install their MAP an IAT sensors? How many questions would that help resolve? There are a lot of guys coming into this ECU tuning that may not be computer experts. All this code and hex can be a bit overwhelming. We need "translators" to take the code and discoveries made by the big programmers and have it explained a little slower and not so technical to the reset of the community.
(And for the 2g DSM guys, I'll make how tos just like the ecu swap one... as I figure this out for myself. Look for them on DSMTuners. Maybe we'll eventually see an Evo 8 Ecu sub-forum on DSMTuners someday.
Doubt it.)
So my poll:
Do you feel that we need a sub-forum specifically for how-to write ups?
And remember, if a "how to" forum were created, we can't rely on the programmers to also do all these write ups. If YOU have the skills, this may be a way for YOU to contribute to the Evo EcuFlash community.

I can push to get this done but it is up to all of us to make this happen. I'd like to see some other buy in on the idea and i will speak to an admin to have the area created.
More info is always better but spreading it out further seems backwards...
Adding to the wiki page seems like the logical thing to do if you want to do write-ups. Otherwise sticky the important consolidated threads here.

Have you noticed how much of the wiki is just links back to threads on here?

There are a few good detailed write ups, like this one:
http://evoecu.logic.net/wiki/How_to_...o_TB_Alternate
but the meat of the information seems to be in the ROM information section. And even there, 95630006, one of the most supported roms, only has a few notes.
I'm not entirely sure why it was even first spread away from this EcuFlash forum.

If you're unhappy with the quality of information on the wiki, you're welcome to edit it. That's the whole reason it was created: multiple editors could work on content there in areas they had some expertise with, other editors could come along and correct basic typographical mistakes, etc, without needing to get the person who posted the thread here (if they even still own an Evo
) to update their post.
It's two different use cases; forums are great for discussion and support, but a locked thread provides a pretty high barrier to entry for making small (or even large) corrections after-the-fact.

I like the wiki and think there's good info/links on there. BUT at the same time i can see why he proposed a subforum, i do see how valuable information is spread out throughout a 1000+ post thread and it can be somewhat difficult to find (not saying its impossible). Im split on the subject and im not sure a how to section would help much.
I think its a good idea.
Also even though the wiki is good, most of the info just links back here and I know for a fact that everyone is on this site more then that wiki.
