I have a friend who just bought a used 2003 EVO8 94170008, the guy who sold him the car told him it is flashed buy a local tuner, when I try to read the file, it doesn't allow me and it only read 3 lines, I checked the datalogs and the timing values are not stock, so the car is reflashed and we cannot access the ECU, we don't care for the file that is on the car as long as we can unlock the ECU and tune it our self. is their a way to do so? by the way how do they lock the ECU anyway, anybody knows?

Have you tried malibujack's unlocker?

 

I read about it before, but I never tried it, thank you for the IDEA, I read the activematrix thread and it seems someone already had the same problem and the Unlocker solved it.

so basically they lock it but changing the INIT value from 0001 to some other value?
