Logging while on track

What does everyone use to secure their laptop when they're logging on a race track? On the street I can just put it on the front seat and use my hand to secure it when slowing down, but at the track you need both hands on the wheel and you can't take your eyes off the road.

I did some google searching and found some hard-mount solutions that seem expensive and cumbersome. I don't want a tri-pod taking up the whole front seat of my street car. I was thinking about getting a back pack, securing it to the front seat, and throwing it in there, but I'm worried about the heat build up over a 30 minute session.

Also, how does the hard drive handle the NHV of a road course? I bought an ASUS EeePC for the specific purpose of datalogging on the track because it has a solid state HD, but I can't get EVOScan to connect with it, so its of no use.

Final question, can we log to an SD card in EVOScan to eliminate the comp HDD?

Lets hear about, see your setups for logging on the track.

If you have an Open Port 2 cable it has a micro sd slot on it that can be used for data logging from what I have read.

Netbook in the glovebox, or for larger laptops, straps around the passenger seat bottom.

I just put my netbook facing the dash, throw the seatbelt around it. It will be secure. I usually dont worry about ending the log until i am back cruising

those solutions are fine for the road, but I'm talking about the track. you can't have a laptop just strapped to your seat via seat belt, not only will it not pass tech, but it would be on the floor after the first lap. I'm looking for a secure method, something that will hold up to track duty.

I used a netbook in the glovebox as well for many track days. Big Willow, Streets, and Laguna Seca. The Asus one I used fit perfectly snug into the evo9 glove with all the cables needed and didn't move or rattle.

I then also purchased the GPSNav from Hamish. That comes with a mount and stays one well during track use. Much easier to use for track days, because you don't have to fiddle with much once you mount it, Just tap a couple buttons n the touch screen when you hot pit. You can quickly transfer the log files via the SD card to your bigger laptop to really review data.

I have an OP1.3... are you saying if I get the 2.0 cable I can log w/o the computer using a micro SD card? Is there a way to record to an SD card in EVOScan so I can avoid the HDD 'timing out' during vibrations?

1) Yes

2) Yes - just get an 8G+ SD card and install windows/everything onto it...

But #1 is better IMHO

ive strapped mine in the passenger seat for autox and it didnt move one bit. i had the belt tight through the side creases of the computer where it folds open and then i pull the belt all the way out and let it lock itself in place

My Eee PC fits in the glove too, but I can't get EVOScan to work on it... EVOScan only works on my big laptop.
