Serial to usb pointer goes everywhere

I could not find this issue discussed anywhere so I figured I would post this in case anyone runs into this issue.

If you are using a serial o usb adapter and sometimes your mouse pointer goes everywhere when you have your adapter plugged in, it is probably because windows thinks your zeitronix or whatever your using to log is a serial mouse due to the serial input.

How do you fix it?

Windows XP

Go to control panel>system>Hardware Tab>Device Manager>expand the mice and other pointers section
Find the device that says serial mouse right click it and hit disable

Windows Vista

start --> run --> "regedit" --> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SYSTEM --> CurrentControlSet
--> services --> sermouse --> Double click "Start" (on the right side of the tree) --> replace 3 with 4 --> [OK] --> restart Done!

Your computer believes that the device is a mouse and the communication of the zeitronix is doing this. What I've found with mine was start the computer up with the zeitronix unplugged and plug in the serial usb converter in. Then once the usb drivers fire up i could plug in the zeitronix and start up the car.

Seems if there is no communication going on when you plug the usb thing in it works fine.
