evo9 ecu swap?

My brother just picked up a used evo9 at a local auction which has a brunt ecu and I'm wondering if there"s a writeup on how to do an ecu swap?Right now our closest tuner is about 5 hours away and I did not bring my truck with me so towing it is not a cheap option.Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

To swap the ecu you should...
1) Disconnect battery
2) Remove glove box
3) Disconnect both wire harnesses going into the ecu
4) Unbolt the ecu from the car
5) Bolt in new ecu
6) Reverse steps 1-3
7) Flash ecu with tactrix cable with correct tune and disable the immobilizer

Sorry to bring an old thread back from the dead ... But I am about to attempt this on my 2006 evo 9 (to get it to pass smog ) ... Does the key need to be reprogrammed or anything after the new ECU is installed? I tried searching but I could not find much. Any help is very much appreciated! Thank you.

No. The list above is on point. The CT9A ECU is pretty dumb compared to modern ECU standards.

One thing to add is that you can either disable the immobilizer or copy over your current immobilizer (if you know it)

This is also why the CT9A can be pretty easy to steal.

My understanding is you won't pass smog unless you pay the dealer to rewite your specific info into that ecu rom (or something like that). The ecu info won't match with what is in the system and will fail. Good luck finding a way to pass.

For an Evo9 (any vehicle 2005 or newer) you'll need the VIN written by the dealer to match the car in order to pass emissions.
