When you guys tune...

...Do you all start by putting your car in Open Loop 100% of the time, and then when you're done tuning everything, put it back in Closed Loop?

Reason I'm asking is because I've had more success leaving the car in closed loop and having it transition to open loop based on the ECU settings.

I tried working on a 3D SD map while in OL 100% of the time, and thought I had it pretty well dialed in; but when I turned CL back on, the car started running like garbage.

Thoughts?? I'm curious to see what you guys are doing here.

Did you reset your fuel trims prior to going back to closed loop? If you map out the car at 14.7 afr, and that reading is not from a faulty sensor, then go to closed loop, I believe the ecu should be just fine and your fuel trims should be close to 0.

How long have you ran it in closed loop? It should fix itself if its not too far out of being calibrated properly. Then your fuel trims will tell the story.

My understanding is that every time I power the car off/on, the fuel trims get reset on a IX. Is that not true?

In open loop, with 1200cc PTE injectors, I had it dialed in at 14.7-15.1 at idle, and where it would be in closed loop normally. But, once put in closed loop - it started getting rougher.

I'll have to go back and dbl-check fuel-trims. I went back to a 2D SD map for now, and scraped my 3D map..

Car is running good, and just need to be fine tuned at this point. I just like the idea of the 3D map, and wanna get my car dialed in on it at some point.

2d was much easier to tune for normal conditions. I went back to 3d becuase of part throttle issues I really couldnt seem to tune out with 2d. Its never ran better than it does now, but I havent switched closed loop back on yet. Been open loop for 2 months now daily driven...

Nice. Do you plan to put CL back on? I'm just wondering... If you tune your car well enough in OL, why/when would you even want to utilize CL?

I swear the WB varies less now than when in CL. My OL tune isnt perfect. Normal cruising and idling is spot on, but once I get close to 0 it starts to get into the 13s.

May not put it back in CL. It certainly helps keep it consistent on a yearly basis, but right now its fine and at some point I may start to experiment with leaning it out more at cruise for mpg.

No not true mate, it only zero's out everytime you flash the Ecu, other than that it keeps its trims intact.

Hope it helps
