Tips on how to keep your tuning device from eating itself!
iv never had any issues with laptops for tuning. you must have some bad luck on that laptop.
Also Ctrl + Break to pause a screen so you can capture for DOS load up
OR Ctrl + Print Screen to capture to clipboard for windows

Been running a Asus EEE for almost 2 years now, solid as a rock, tuned multiple cars, and it's always with me, have at least a thousand logs on it. Just bought an old school thinkpad for the bigger screen and usability, have a hundred or two logs on it so far, and no issues as well.
Both machines on XP pro.

Ctrl+Print Scr is not an option here, if he gets "blue screen errors", because PC is restarting and windows are crashed (no active clipboard).
There is no bad luck on that laptop, it's either hardware/software incompatibility, either some defect (i.e. damaged drive bus or drive itself) in the worst case.
I have had 3 tuning laptops in the past 2 years. I have had it with laptop problems so I bought a solid state drive and 8g of ddr3 to hopefully cure my laptop of its instant go to work headaches.
What are some tips to keep your tuning computer running well? is there certain methods to maintaining such device? I have not been pleased once with the performance after a windows update, so I disabled that.
It seems that opensource stuff gives microsoft fits like no other. Any software/hardware/settings/changes you make when you decide to use a laptop for tuning?

I have had a plethora of stability issues on both win 7 and vista. explicitly happening with either ecu flash and evoscan running and only while flashing or logging.
performance of the hardware isnt really my issue. Usually seems to be a software quirk.
Im on 1.42 ecu flash cause the latest 1.43 has a 3d display issue in a thread i started below. evoscan 2.7 cause I had problems with 2.9

toshiba c655d-s5511, constantly crashes during a reflash or logging operation.
I just replaced and reinstalled a win7 ultimate upgraded from the OE home prem + the 8 gig ddr3 of ram up from OE 4.
I tried to minimalize all the windows add ons which this ultimate version has none.

I have the same laptop and have had it for about the same amount of time as you but I'm on XP not 7 and I haven't had any problems with it at all.
If your wanting to hurry up and reflash in between passes at the track then why don't you just put it in sleep instead of shutting it off? Or just do like I do and leave it on. Your talking maybe 2-3 minutes tops from pulling up to the water box to coming back around and parking safely to make adjustments.

Win7 = 50/50 shot at having a usable computer for tuning
Win XP = solid as a rock...
LOL...

P.S. I am running a 8 year old HP pavilion (Win XP) that I replaced the HD on about 4 years ago (1 year before I got into tuning) and have had no issues with it... Amazingly I am still on the original battery and it still holds a charge for 2+ hours of use.
Win 7 isn't the problem. I've used evoscan/ecuflash on multiple win 7 machines with no issue to date. Its hardware or other software that is causing the issue.
as mentioned above...set aside a dedicated machine for tuning. You can get older dell's/Hps with decent specs from Ebay for about 300 bucks. Just use it only for tuning and you will be fine.

i currently using a (~4yr old) Lenovo S10e netbook with 2gb ram and the normal processor that all netbooks from this generation use with XP. i havent had any issue with the hardware except that my old school tuning cable broke (reflashing connector) and i had to repair it. i use evoscan 2.6 and an older version of EcuFlash due to the cable. i also have the newer version of EcuFlash just in case. and this is my travel/tuning/everyday computer.
truthfully the only issue i have at times is the USB to serial adapter for my WB. it can be a real pain to work sometimes. i ordered a PCI serial port adapter which worked well until i started the computer with it installed and it apparently fried my expansion port so im back to using the USB adapter.
im currently looking into doing an in dash tablet install that will replace the laptop, radio and hopefully add other functions to include reflashing whenever available.

Well today I got my first irql error while tuning. It happened while using evoscan during a log. I think thats 16 days before my computer which was a frresh instal of win 7 ultimate, brand new SSD and 8g of ram decided it doesnt like to tune.
