Evo 7 Maxed out injectors and weird power graph?

Hi Guys,

Check out my log last night, mods below, stock apart from bigger inter-cooler and a Tomei M7960 turbo.

The power graph looks week and I got some high amount of know near the top end, could this be due to the injectors being maxed out?

I get a few jerks, like a fuel cut after 6k RPM.
my boost controller says I max at 124 kpa, that was around 6.5k RPM.

The first pull was from 3rd 2k to around 7k followed by a 4th gear pull to around 6k.

I DONT have wideband installed yet, so please ignore that data.

Any comment on how to improve the car for a better DD?

How are you logging AFR, if you have no wideband? You need to know AFR, to diagnose IDC % irregularities. Also you shouldnt be touch the fuel map, without AFR's being logged.

With such larger turbo, you need larger injectors (1000cc) & Walbro 255 fuel pump (or bigger). you definitely need a full re-tune & you should get some neat power out his turbo even with pump fuel (around 26psi - 1.7/1.8bar).
I'd also recommend that you install aftermarket head studs, so, the engine won't leak @ higher load levels.

Thanks for the tips guys!

Since I don;t have a wideband, I won't touch the ECU, so that will be on my list of to buy things next.
I just logged the car

apart from that new injectors and a fuel pump should help me see better result?

but in HK i don't trust the cowboy tuners here, and I have read but not too familiar with injector scaling, let alone tuning to take this on my self.

So would putting back a stock turbo help my figure better?
the spool is slow and late, max spool is around 5k @120~ kpa

Heres a Evo 6 I mapped with a Tomei M7960 turbo, PTE 880cc injectors, 26psi boost and stock engine, crap NZ 95 octane fuel (same as US91 I believe)

This should give you an idea of what to aim for

Thanks Philr8!

Looks like this turbo has a tendency to reach max spool up top.
what intake and exhaust dose it have?

Mine has a ARC air box and stock exhaust with cat, on HK gas 98 ron I think.

I would prefer a faster spooling turbo for street car, so back to a stock turbo would be ideal, at least no need to tune, can run to around 280 hp.

Then I can slowly add a nice exhaust, the new injectors, and finally a HKS GTII?

Happytime, did you ever get this sorted out?

If I were you I'd sell:
UR pulleys, HKS oil cooler, Tomei thermostat kit, HKS EVC
And go back to stock on all those parts.

Take that money and get a fuel pump and nice exhaust system to reduce backpressure so the turbo can spool-up and make some power. Don't worry about the injectors as stock ones are good 'till 350+WHP. Lastly get the wide-band and have one of the good US tuners do a remote tune for you. The car will make tons more power everywhere and feel much more responsive to boot.

Hi Mate,

I'm on to it, part of my problem was cylinder 1 and 2's coil was not plug on fully, this helped with the bucking at high speed.

I have now changed to Tephra 90550701 V7, make the drive a bit smoother.
Got a AEM WB sensor, waiting for my Tomei front pipe and then will install the sensor.

Will boost leak test, then I am ready for a basic tune.

Next on the horizon, injectors and maybe cams and TBE.

I think it'll be running lean, especially if you have the stock fuel pump, my 7 ran about 17.2 ms IPW with an 80 series.

That's what I was afraid of, but my mechanic says by the sound of the pump, it sounded like a bigger than stock pump.

Anyway my initial tune will be around stock level boost and power, until I upgrade my fuel system, I will get a new pump then.

I aim for a fast spooling 400WHP, 3XXWTQ fun street car.

By the way, for that kind of power, do I need to replace my stock clutch disk after the tune?
I don't drive it hard much, only once a while on highways, and a few times a year on twisty mountain roads.
