Hitting boost cut after Tephra V7

Hi everyone,

First thread here, long time lurker. Thanks for the wealth of knowledge I've found here already!

Now on to the problem. I just moved on to Tephramod v7 from stock. I got the maps and immob bits and started up all fine and dandy. However, I'm hitting a boost cut at about 3k rpm like clockwork. Logs show either 1 or zero counts of knock, usually only getting the one count if i bounce off the boost cut for a bit (since I had no idea what was going on the first time)

So, logs do show wgdc going to 100%, and I can hear it venting. I just can't figure out why.

Valet is disabled, as is nlts so it shouldn't be involvement from those. Like I said though, I'm stumped.

These same fuel, ignition and mivec maps worked perfectly fine on the stock rom.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

File attached for your diagnostic enjoyment.

What you describe sounds like fuel cut.

How are you controlling boost? Your WGDC table is zeroed out so I'm not sure how you get 100%.

Post your log of RPM, Load, Timing, Boost, WGDC Knock, IPW and WBO2 when you hit the problem so we can better help you.

Check that load at 3000 RPM doesn't exceed 255 (From your Fuel Cut x1 table). If it does, raise the values in the table about 10% over the loads you normally hit. That should stop you hitting the cut.

Any help still appreciated... Still can't figure this out. Should be a non-issue with getting Tephra going but this has me stuck.

I don't see boost in your log so it's difficult to see what is really going on here. You are not hitting fuel cut but your wide band shows you are very lean.
It is possible you have a lean misfire. My advice is to log boost so we can help you figure this out.

Now I see it. Your Global Boost Control Settings show WGDC = 100% under 200 load. Like I said earlier, your Main Map Boost Control Settings are zeros for Main Map Wastegate Duty (WGDC) and Boost Desired Engine Load (BDEL). This means as soon as you exceed 200 load WGDC goes from 100% to 0% - instantaneous boost cut. Once load falls under 200, WGDC goes back from 0 to 100% - full boost again. That must be one jerky ride you have there.

Start here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...g-dummies.html

and then go here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...led-boost.html

and here https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...-solenoid.html

Read until your eyes drop out...it's all here for you!

If you don't have one buy a wide band and wire it up to your ECU so you can log AFR. Research how to log boost directly using your MAP sensor.

Good luck!

Thank you so much, I see what you're talking about. Its not THAT jerky since I was keeping my foot in it. At that load its really not something that even made me lift off instantly. Just looked at the WBO2 and saw it wasn't lean and decided to stay and listen for a second to hear what was happening. I'll make some changes and see if its better!

I had read the first and third thread, but I will absolutely read the second.

I do have a wideband, apparently I screwed up my logging selections when I went to Tephra. Boost MAP logging is next!

One big question though... I thought Tephra was something a lot of people were swapping immobilizer and OxFFA onto and flashing like that. How has nobody mentioned to go through WGDC right off the bat?

It's more involved. There are probably 15 to 20 tables that you need to copy from your stock ROM into v7. You also need to set up some of the new tables like gear based boost control that only exost on v7, before you have a working ROM. Read up on how to set up v7. You have much research to do before you should risk it on your ride. A new block is not cheap! :-)
