I hope there isnt a specific spot to post this but basically what the title says. Ecuflash will not read the ecu, but evoscan does. So i read with evoscan and write with ecuflash. Why is that? When i try to write with ecuflash a table comes up with blank spots with make, model, year, etc. Why is that? Thanks.

 

Are you running a tephra rom?

 

Yes, sounds like you are missing the xml in ecuflash.

LOL There is now a new generation of Evo owners. The original people have sold their cars off and the newbies are now trying to get the hang of things.

It was probably easier the first time around for those of us who were following the development day by day. There is a lot of useful information buried in some long *** threads. It's hard to pick it out using the search feature.

 

^^ this exactly... it was just odd that it worked before, now all the sudden it does not. i searched trust me, as i always do, (always come up with answers) and could not come up with a straight answer. i kinda figured it had to do with the xml files but i found it odd that now ecuflash cannot read. all of the xml files are in my ecuflash > rommetadata. is there something i didnt do that i should have done. i copied the tephramod xml pack into the rommetadata folder as well.

 

Where do you have Ecuflash installed on your computer? If its under the program files x86subdirectory windows won't allow you to make changes. Install it directly on the c drive.

 

Wreckleford, I'm not sure what issues you've had but the install directory shouldn't affect anything. I wonder if you're installing under a Windows user account that doesn't have admin privileges? If you've accepted the default installation directory location, EcuFlash should be here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenECU\EcuFlash\

and you would just need to drop any new evo definitions here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata\mitsubishi\evo

After that, restart EcuFlash and the added definition would be read in when the initial definition read happens on startup. The only other thing to make sure of is that the definition directory in EcuFlash is also set to its default value. This is specified under the options menu 'Directories->Metadata Directory' and should be:

C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata

Sgammbino92, if you verify the above settings and still can't read, can you email your ROM to support at tactrix dot com and we'll take a look?

May not be an issue with current versions of Windows, IDK. Since I had the issue way back then I have always just installed directly to the C directory.

 

alright i got it all fixed. i had the metadata directory wrong. but now with my TephraMod pack i put it into rommetadata>mitsubishi>evo, but its compressed zip file. will those still work or what do i have to do. sorry for such noob questions but ive never been good with files in a computer but im slowly learning it with the help from posts like this! so thanks

 

The highlighted is the actual issue. From Windows Vista onwards with UAC enabled you cannot write to that directory unless you are explicitly running with admin rights. The reason for this is simple that directory was never meant to store settings information...it was always supposed to be just for actual exes and other static information. Settings and the like should always be stored under the users folder which does allow write access from low privilege users in this scenario.

To work around this problem, you can disable UAC, always run EcuFlash as an admin or explicitly login as an admin. Since a lot of the tuning apps often don't run correctly with a low privilege user account I simply solve this problem on my tuning laptop by having an account with full admin privileges which I login into for tuning purposes only.
