I am also getting this UNKNOWN ROM error when trying to open 2 different HEX. rom files i read from two evo 8 ECU's, used a 1.3 cable and evoscan to download them.
I have the tephra v7 XLM file in Rommetadata>Mitsubishi>Evo and all the other XLM files that came installed
So i think need help finding the right definitions for these 2 files.
The first ecu was in a 2003 Evo 8 USDM and the second was bought used and tested using this evo.
Also I have a evo 9 with a tephra map and i can read it so i don't think these are tephra maps.

Add the Tephra Evo 8 ROM to your list and you should be good.

 

I know it's not in the screen shot but I do have the evo 8 tephra map in there and I still can't read these 2 maps. If anyone can read theses maps let me know.

 

Evo8_2_FlashImage_20182005_2259.hex has a ROM ID of 96531706. You will need to add the 2D SD 96531706.xml to your Ecuflash metadata directory to open it.

Evo8_FlashImage_20182005_2256.hex has a ROM ID of 94151715. You will need to add the 2D SD 941715.xml to your metadata to open it.

I Searched and I find a tephra definitions update pack I download it put the XLM files and everything opened just fine.

 

Old thread but have same problem as all ,ecu read goes to end and fine, but when try open it with ecuflash , comes error uknown rom image.

And i have weird Rom Id 9653F806 🤔 any help?
