I just bought a evo 8 fq300 and a openport 2.0, been messing around in Ecuflash for 2 last days and reading a lot on forums.

And feels like I'm missing a lot of setting when editing the ROM. I tried to search the web and this forum for a better definition file but all of them are the same.

So the question is, are there any replacement rom I can run or a better XML file ? Is there a possibility to run Tephra mod ? If so what rom suits best for an fq300 ?

Right now I'm running stock rom for fq300, 93660005 3 plug ecu. Also I'm running 1.44.4870 of Ecuflash

My 8 GSR came with the same ROM and yeah, the definitions and mods for it are very limited. The closest Tephra Mod rom for it is 9626079. I run 96262709 (DMA version). I think the easiest way to get the ROM is via the Evoscan website.

Ziad created that thread because 96260709 didn't exist at the time, but I'm sure it's still a good option.

I've attached my 93660005 xml as it's a little better than the standard one but I stopped adding to the definition years ago.

i have actually already went through Ziad guideline for 96530706 and have a rom ready but i got uncertain when i saw his last post about going to 96260009 because 96530706 wasent working that good.

and i actually already also have the 96260709 rom, but i think my xml are corrupted, its showing weird values?. i will uplaod a screenshot. dont know were to find a better xml for 96260709 ?

is it possible to add DMA to my 96260709 rom or its a totaly different rom ?



Also for logging ? im guessing Evoscan is the way to go, but arent there any free ones ? i have tried Mitsulogger but cant get it to work, im using the SD card logging function in opennnport 2.0 adapter right now.

 

Well, your 96260709 ROM has been saved as an SRF rather than hex or bin, so that's probably your cause there. However, you should just ask for a new one from Tephra/Evoscan/other reputable place you got it from.

I don't recall exactly how I got my 96262709 ROM; it's possible I made it as I did make another for 93660005, but I think Ziad or donner made it (it's been way too long and computers were stolen and wiped in the meantime). I don't mind sharing the 96262709 ROM and xml to people who have proof that they have somehow donated to Tephra.

In all honesty, just buy Evoscan; it's cheap and way cheaper than buying your Evo 8 if you're keen to get into tuning then it'll be the cheapest thing you buy. You will also want to buy a wideband 02 sensor, 3 port boost control solenoid and probably a MAP sensor. After that, you probably only really need time and fuel. I recall that there is at least a good thread or two on here about the best way to get started on tuning.

so you are saying i should save roms as hex or bin ? srf contain the same data (bin/hex) + extra info ? i have tried to save it as a bin file but still the same...

and sadly no i cant show proof that i donated to Tephra, i didn´t pay for that rom. i got all this in my hands when i bougth the car. i bought the car in bad shape and a bad tunde, the previous owner didn´t have time for fixing the last things on the engine ( new build forged) so i did and now i started from scratch with a stock 93660005 rom to make it run. I will see if previous owner has any proof from donation to Tephra if that works ?

i actually got some good results from SD card logging on openport 2.0 today! will hook up my wideband to it tomorrow, and if that works it will do for now im used to new stand alone ECU like Maxxecu/Emu ecu/haltech and Link so this is a bit diffrent for me with external logging and XML files, almost like back in the days with Nistune

 

Saving as SRF adds a bunch of header code to the ROM which then means everything is offset. Resaving as .bin or .hex won't change that, I don't think. If the seller bought the ROM legitimately then I'm sure they have a .bin or .hex file already.

Out of curiosity, which wideband are you using? Have you wired an analogue output into your ECU? You should be able to log the AFR via the SD card logging if you do that.

 

Hey again I was using innovate MTX-L took the output signal to 2,5 mic jack on the openport dongle, it logs but I have some interference, I will try to wire up the lambda controller to the same 12v feed as the obd jack.

Also car is running really good on a modified fq300 rom at the moment. Have asked the old owner about the tehpra rom but very slow respons and don't think he will look it up actually.. so I guess I will have to buy the ROM, but think I will stay on fq300 rom right now. Would be nice with the extra functions like engine light on knock and so but yeah I think I will wait

 

Found the problem with 96260709, the 96260009 base xml file was containing stuff from old Tehpra version, clean instal of a fresh 96260009 xml and everything looks nice, car is also running on 96260709 rom now and no problem

 

There is bit of a learning curve to even get yourself to square 1 in ECUFlash sometimes. Glad you're sorted and past all that

Which ROM ID do you have, TOSHIJAPAN? 93660005 or 96260009?

When you read a ROM from your car, make sure to save it as .bin or .hex. Do not save it as .srf
