Evo 5 ecuflash issue (unknown ROM image)
Evo 5 ecuflash issue (unknown ROM image)
Hey guys,
I recently purchased an Evo 5 and it had a CEL under full boost (which i assume was knock, so i always back out of it), I was told it has a 'street tune' so I purchased the Evoscan software with Tactrix 2.0 cable with the flashing connector.
I plugged in the cable yesterday and ran Evoscan datalogging and I can confirm it is knock and the knocksum is quite high when it hits full boost (21psi). I checked the timing and it looks like its 10 degrees at like 3500-4000 rpm which is where the knock is occurring. Seems high that low in the rpm range even for 94 octane pump gas,
Anyways, long story short, I went to download the map with ECUflash to check what the timing is set at, i plugged in the flash adaptor and the tactrix 2.0 cable and it downloads just fine. After it finishes downloading it says unknown ROM image.
I checked a few other forums and they said that you're just missing the correct XML file because they have older versions of the ECUflash software etc. I checked my folders and there is alot of XML files in there a few of which they have asked other people to download but i already have (probably 3 or 4 specific for the Evo 5) and it still isn't able to read my ROM.
I did save the file in the .BIN format but I'm wondering how how I'm able to work out what XML i need to read the ROM?
I'm new to ECUflash so any advice is appreciated.
Note: ECUflash version is: 1.44.4870
Thanks!

Because i can't find out what the current XML/definition file is, I'm wondering if it would be easier to just flash on a stock Evo 5 GSR map and just retune it?
Again, any advise is appreciated.
I've also uploaded my .BIN file of the current unknown ROM if anyone can help me work out what XML file I need to read/edit the ROM.
Thanks in advance

I don't think I'm able to reflash a tune back onto the ECU if I'm unable to edit it am I? For example if I flash a stock Evo 5 GSR map back onto the car and I have an issue with it, i won't be able to reflash the tune I have saved back onto it because the ROM is not recognized. Would that be a correct assumption?
Any help is greatly appreciated
