Unknown ROM image please help
I'm new to EcuFlash with an '03 Evo (2nd owner) and I have plugged in the cable and installed the software. It's reads the ECU successfully, then prompts the Setup ROM wizard which says "Unknown ROM Image" . Then it gives me the option to 1. Define from scratch. 2. Copied from definitions below. 3. Inherited from definitions below. It does not list a 2003 model, but I have 4 different 2004 ROMs to choose from. Would it be safe to select a base 2004 ECU to start from scratch with? There are several numbers after the selections. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This cable has been used on another '03 with no problems reading or selecting timing or fuel tables.

Do you have the newest version of EcuFlash? 1.29a? It has has more rom definitions. If you have he newest and it still isnt working, just select define from evo7 definition for the meantime. After you have it opened, under Rom Info, what does it say for Internal ID? I had the same issue when I was reading my ROM image from my 03 initially until I updated he ECUFlash software. After that it worked fine. My ROM image shows up as a 04 imagine for whatever reason.

There are a few unknown roms that show up even in ECUFlash 1.29a
Usually their lesser known revisions that turned up.. but the easiest answer is to find the closest numerical match to your rom. Its not perfect and you might have trouble with the AXIS values and a few other things not being "framed" correctly, but it puts you at a starting point. I generally find a new unknown romID once every few months..

Thanks for the responses. I actually was not using the latest version of ECUFlash. I have it downloaded now, and will try next weekend when I have access to a dyno. Hopefully my rom will show up now, but if not I guess I will pick the closest match and define from scratch. I just dont want to mess anything up or take any chances. I almost chose the Evo7, so that would be OK??
