Ecu flash question?
Ecu flash question?
Ok so my friend just got tuned at turbo trix a day ago and tonight i tried to pull his map from his car to see what was changed between the last pull and the one before he had, the thing is the ecuflash kept giving me an error and not doing nothing it said that the init code was not recognized or something of that matter nto sure what it is, following this we logged the car with evoscan and it worked fine it logged it, but ecuflash would not connect not sure what it is
It seems that the tuners are trying to lock their maps more and more.
I wouldn't be surprised that the map isn't scrambled as well.
Go to www.aktivematrix.com and look for Malibujack's Ecu unlocker. Your init code in the Ecu has been changed and EcuFlash doesn't recognize it.

Unless you paid extra for an ECUTek license, I doubt they used it. ECUFlash actually has more parameters available at this point and is becoming more dominant because it costs considerably less for a shop (and the enduser)
There can be a simple explanation to why it won't download the map, if you have an ECU+ or another piggyback that intercepts the OBD-II data line, it won't download, or a bad driver install can have a similar effect.
Additionally, Its pretty common for some tuners to alter the init code and possibly obfuscate the roms to prevent people from casually grabbing them and seeing them. In reality its a trivial thing to resolve, but keeps people from going further if they don't know what it is that their looking at.
I've actually seen one rom so far that was intentionally altered, and its real easy to fix if you know what your doing and looking for. I honestly don't know if some of these things were done intentionally or not though, even though it appears that way.
At least it seems easy to me because of my familiarity with this stuff, I do have tuners occasionally ask me about this stuff.

The ECU Unlocker isn't a tool for any specific type of Rom.. Basically, its a tool that lets you recover an unreadable ECU by using the init code used by the hardware. In other words, it won't matter what the init code is on the ECU.
The function of this init code in the tool is primarily to recover an ECU that will no longer boot, either because of a bad flash or the rom init code was changed. It bypasses the rom and goes straight to the bootstrap.. It was designed to allow you to flash a blank ECU or an ECU with a bad flash.. However the side effect is that you can read a locked ECU.

Its really just a trivial level of protection considering the expertise out there to figure this stuff out. But it will discourage casual viewing of the maps..
More specifically, its intended to prevent Mitsubishi from inadvertantly reflashing a flashed ECU since the MUT tool generally won't try init codes other than 0001
