RAX Patch - ROM patches

I'm making some EcuFlash-based ROM patches available. These have been developed and tested on my RA, and will now be available for some X ROMs... hence the "RAX" moniker.

RAX Patch contains:

1. IAT Adjusted BWGDC
2. SST Upshift Boost EC Management (SST models only)
3. Atmospheric Boost Baro Compensation
4. RAX Fast Logging

Details follow:

IAT Adjusted BWGDC

This patch makes it possible to adjust your Base Wastegate Duty Cycle in line with Intake Air Temperature.

A new table becomes available in the EcuFlash Turbo category:

The adjustment factor is applied directly to the relevant Reactive Solenoid Base WGDC Map lookup value, if that value is between 0% and 100%.

A Base Wastegate value of 0% will always remain 0%, irrespective of IAT.

A Base Wastegate value of 100% will always remain 100%.

SST Upshift Boost EC Management (SST Models Only)

This patch may be useful for reducing boost levels during SST upshifts at wide-open throttle. It will zero out any positive error-correction factor when RPM is dropping.

This patch will do something meaningful if:

  • Reactive Solenoid Max Total Upward WGDC Correction vs. TPS table is set up to allow upward/positive error correction.
  • Base WGDC and Boost Target tables are set up in such a way as to require the use of upward error correction in order to meet boost targets.
With boost error correction configured to suit, this patch will result in a lower wastegate duty cycle being used when a wide-open throttle SST upshift occurs, eg.

While this patch is no "magic bullet" for high boost during SST upshifts, it can help reduce the severity of the problem. That is, if your SST behaves like this in the first place - some do, some don't.

Atmospheric Boost Baro Compensation

This patch makes it possible to eliminate the fixed Atmospheric Boost value when using Direct (psi based) Boost Control. The ECU will use BARO SENSOR reading in its calculations for boost targets.

Traditionally, psi-based boost control would offset the 3D boost target map values by a hardcoded "atmospheric pressure" constant, eg. "14.5". Boost targets would always operate in terms of absolute pressure.

This patch allows the ECU to use boost targets at relative (ie. gauge) pressure.

Two scaling modes are available. One caters for Direct Boost Control using the factory 3-Bar MAP sensor. The other supports the aftermarket Omni 4-Bar MAP sensor. Note: For Direct Boost with Omni 4-Bar, different patches are required in other areas of the ROM - RAX2 Patch does not deliver complete Omni 4-Bar support on its own.

The patch will only use the BARO SENSOR if the Atmospheric Boost fixed value is set to 0. A non-zero setting will bypass the patch.

RAX Fast Logging

This patch works with EvoScan v2.9.0023 or later to provide fast logging of 30+ items.

This one is big, and has an entire thread dedicated to it! See here for details!

RAX Patch Download and Documentation

RAX Patch comes in a set of EcuFlash XML definition files, for specific ROMs. The patch items should be straightforward to apply.

An important part of this release is a document containing detailed instructions on installing, testing and using the patches. This document (pdf) is included in the patch download.

PLEASE read the documentation in its entirety before applying, flashing, logging, driving, anything. There are detailed testing notes in that document - with useful logging addresses, and what values you should see in them. These notes have been included for your own safety (and peace of mind).

This document also contains Liability and Safety notices. Joy! Following in the best modern tradition of whacking everyone over the head with "use at your own risk" signposts, they are reproduced below, in tasteful red:

LIABILITY NOTICE

Incorrectly patched instructions can be extremely dangerous to your engine management, and can lead to severe engine damage. You assume ALL responsibility for the integrity of your ECU and engine management, vehicle safety, etc. If you are not confident in the procedures/data involved in the RAX Patch, do not make any change to your vehicle ECU's ROM image.

SAFETY NOTICE

It is important to testing any engine management change in a safe and thorough manner. Tests recommended in the related document are a guideline only. You assume ALL responsibility for the testing approach taken when using ECU ROM patches.

After all that, you're probably cowering under your desk in fear. On the off chance you're still with me, here is the download link, finally:

RAX Patch Compatibility

RAX Patch v1 & v2 should coexist peacefully with TephraXMODv1.

RAX Patch v1 & v2 should coexist peacefully with the current Direct PSI-Based Boost Control patches (including Omni 4-Bar mode), as referenced in XMLs from www.goldenevo.com.

Special thanks must go to the brave souls who have been "first-run" testers for these patches for each supported ROM!

Nice work Rich.
I had a look at all this and i like it. Pretty sure I'll be using it in my own car when it's finally back on the road

I'll shortly start work on another round of patches.

I'll be adding Atmospheric Boost Baro Compensation. This may be useful for people running Direct PSI-Based Boost Control, and who want to run the same "gauge" boost pressure at different altitudes. It replaces the fixed "Atmospheric Boost" value with a dynamic reading from the baro sensor.

And this time I'll do the 5SP ROMs too. 5SP will get the above baro boost tweak, and the IAT Adjusted BWGDC patch.

This time, I'll release individual ROM patches instead of a single zip of "everything". Easier on my poor brain.

If anyone's keen to get in and try an early release, post up your ROM and I'll get to it first.

^^ sweet!

Atmospheric Boost Baro Compensation and IAT Adjusted BWGDC for the 5 M/T would be awesome and very much appreciated!

Chet, you should be running something newer than 0015. Mitsu has made a LOT of changes since that rom.

I've got a new version of this patch for 5268 series ROM (5MT). Before inflicting it on someone's actual vehicle, it would be great if an "assembler-aware" person could peer-review the changes it makes.

It's not a complicated set of changes. A review would involve using the prototype patch, comparing "before" and "after" code/data, and sanity-checking it.

Any takers?

Rich

PS. Once this first ROM is given the green light, I can rattle off other 5MT ones without fuss.

It's the one we discussed - IAT Adjusted BWGDC and Atmospheric Boost Baro Comp.

I wanted to see if I could get a source-level double-check before inflicting it on your ECU (lol), but that expectation was probably a little unrealistic!

I'll pm you with it, along with the logging/testing requirements.

Cheers,

Rich
