check valve keeps oil pressure at crank during idle. same job as check valves on the squirters.
restricter would limit excessive oil pressure at higher RPM. much like FP restricter in turbo feed line.
now somebody tell me how not having it would make the mivec not work correctly. I am not suggesting its a good idea to leave them out. I am just suggesting the mivec would still work just fine without them. at least I dont see how it would not work correctly. Mivec numbers may need to be adjusted differntly due to gear recieving different oil pressure curve.

We call it a restrictor but it can be called a check valve just as easily...possibly a pulse dampener. I am operating on theory here, but it seems it lets the oil and doesnt let it back out with pressure fluctuation. Whatever it is does smooth it out and allow more MIVEC advance over a broader curve. I dont understand why that is just yet, going over the 745kb of driving data Johnny provided for me.
I think when we get to E85, Johnny will want to sell the 1G and pick up another daily driver. I shouldnt have said that in case Denise is reading this...sorry.
