One Stock motor VS 3 Turbos!!!

Over the past few months we had an opportunity to collect some pretty interesting data.

For those of you wondering "which turbo is best for me?"--this thread's for you!!

Subject vehicle
2006 Evo IX Mr 6-speed.
Stock motor//Arp studs ONLY
Stock Cams
Stock TB
Stock IM
Buschur Exhaust
Slowboy IC
ETS 3" Intake pipe
PTE 880's
Labonte Meth Kit
All mods were the same throughout the testing except the 6262 kit's exhaust manifold.

FPRED VS FPBLACK VS PTE6262

red@32psi

black@31psi

6262@31psi (pull ends @7900rpm)

Nice compare! Black for me - and I bet if you started the pull lower it would have shown the spool to be as good as the Red.

Wouldnt corrected charts allow you to compare the power more accurately since there on different days?

Could you get a better photo/scan of the 6262 chart? So we can see where it is spooling. Possible an overlay of the FPblack vs 6262??

Nice info. & thank you for sharing!

Yes sir the 6262 is nasty you cant compare the feel and pull of it compared to the stock framed turbos..That last pull with the 6262 turbo was back to back pulls with really no rest. Also i had a really soft spring in my bov and a small clogged air filter and not to mention a hole in my intake manifold I Bet now with the 9 inch air filter vs the 4 inch filter new stiff spring and the intake manifold now fixed on 31 psi the car is easy 550 whp all day...

You would probably hit closer if not 600awhp.

I guess to each their own. I would definitely forego the 6262 for the Red or Black on this car. There is way more under the curvers on the stock frame turbos than the 6262 and only slightly lower power. It's over 1000 RPM longer to 300wtq on the 6262 compared to the Red (and most likely Black if it were started earlier). 300 wtq at 5100 RPM or 300 wtq at 3900 RPM? I pick the latter.

It all depends on what you what and what you are building. A drag car, more boost and more mods...definitely 6262. Street car, weekend racer, keeping these mods, I think the Red or Black are clear winners.

^ To add on top of what you said Eric...

The gains in peak power at these levels compared to the lag makes the red the clear winner if all the supplied data is accurate. I'm actually very surprised to see that the T3 6262 made so little power over the red. If you smooth out the peaks and valleys of the 6262 graph you're looking at ~15 more whp up top. Even the black made 11whp more but with about 250rpm more lag, not a good trade off.

I have a question for the OP: How many days apart were all of these dyno tests performed?

One thing people should keep in mind is that at full tilt, the difference in power between the turbo's will increase.

The numbers on the charts are kind of misleading as they are the spikes in the power. If you used smoothing to compare power curves, I think you'd see something more like this:

Red - 300ft/lbs by 3900 RPM and 490 WHP out the top
Black - 300 ft/lbs by 4300 RPM and 495 WHP
6262 - 300ft/lbs by 5000 RPM and 505 WHP

To me, on this car as this power level, the RED is the winner. I wouldn't trade 15 WHP for 1000 RPM more powerband on a street car.

EDIT: Didn't read the rest of Boltz post, but we are on the same page.

As far as smoothing the graph more will.take a dli box or a.cop and the tiny air fliter i had on before was choking the.motor a bit now i have a 9 inch k&n vs the 4 inch dirty bent vibrint filter.Did you see i hqve stock cams and stock manifold amd throttle body..I was i had the filter and intake manifold hole fixed before the 6262 tune..

The red is my favorite stock appering turbo the black sucks plain and simple doesnt have the hit of the red..Out of all the turbos i had the best is the 6262 its nasty when it hits theres no comparision to the other two all hell breaks loose and keeps pulling till redline and b9ost doesnt fall off at all...

It's laggy but add some race gas and it will blow them all out of the water

The red at 32 psi seems on par with most cars with similar mods. The black & 6262 seems low for the boost being run. My guess is your setup is restricting the power potential of the larger turbos.

Like i said stock cams chocked up air filter and hole in my intake manifold and im on pump gas with 3xtremely low timing....I looked on the forms and i made the most power with my red and black with my limited mods...I did fix my manifold and put a bigger fliter ans the car feels way better rips haed also the pulls were done in thrid gear instead of fourth i have a 6 sp tranny..sharkbite im doing e85 cams and ported manifold very soon...
