When my block let go last winter, I already had this clutch sitting in the garage, so I just used it and spent the funds in other areas. Not sure I would have chosen this clutch if I had forseen the 2.4 in my future.

The only annoying feature is if I let the car 'bounce' on the rev limiter, it doesn't want to shift. As long as I shift at 7900 or sooner though, it works just fine.

Poor little ACT hope you have better luck with it than i did see here

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-problems.html

With your displacement and black i would think even the Exedy would not be so happy after some spirited driving but i would imagine much better than the ACT.

Best of luck

How is the triple for a DD? I have my reservations on a triple disc without sprung hubs

Also, what is the service life of a triple? I don't want to be changing the clutch every 20,000 miles.

Erik, The Twin is an amazing DD however the Triple changes things a bit... The first day of having the car I almost stalled it a few times! It is also much louder than the Twin, and good luck taking off of a steep hill Here in Seattle there are some really steep hills and I stalled trying to go up a hill that I go up almost everyday in the Twin and never had a problem. Now with the Triple I have to rev between 4.5-5k and slip the clutch out... If not it will just stall.

I wouldn't say it is near as good as the Twin for DD but the clutch pedal feels the same as the Twin and acts the same in traffic, sore leg, but overall the Triple is a great clutch so far. It grabs much harder than the Twin and I like the added comfort that my Twin HD couldn't have given me at this torque level!

I think the life of a Triple is 20-25k from what I have read. The spline/spindle (I think that is what it is called, have to double check) goes out on them quicker than the Twin...

We have a customer that runs an Exedy triple in his Evo and he really does not care for it.

I've driven it and don't see what all the "hype" is all about as the pedal pressure is on the harder side and the action w/ the pull type set-up just doesn't feel great.

I guess when compared to my QM it is much more streetable but f-in costly

Still no magic clutch for us higher hp/tq guys that like to drive on the street still

Or a 146....or 177...lol

Juvy can drive a triple (she weighs 90 something wet and wearing boots), and I personally have felt that other than cost the Exedy triple (non carbon) is hard to beat. It will hold pretty much any amount of torque i have been able to put to it.

I may just try the HD and run lower boost. Streetablility trumps ultimate horsepower for me. I have gotten 60,000 miles out of my ACT, so it's not like I tear through parts.

Well turbo dependent but with the Black it looks to be about 60ish difference when comparing the other Black 2.4s I have seen. Trying to catch me... I'm watching you Aaron!

What about the amount of force my fist applies to the dash as I sit in bumper-to-bumper LA traffic?

Definitely not my favorite usage of the triple. Not because its hard to drive, but I hate thinking I might be wasting it. The Civic and the Lexus are the traffic jam cars these days

Eh so thats what the triples are supposed to last eh? That sorta sucks lol. I drive a lottttt so I hope I can get it to last 30,000+. I only see me being at the track maybe 2-5x a year with the car and the rest will be like 95% highway miles.

im sure the clutch will do fine long as you are taking it easy majority of the time but then again im just worried about day to day alot of pressure on the petal but again you will get used to it. LOL I never knew my evo had a exedy twin in there and i was like man this clutch is tight but got used to it after that 22hr drive LOL.

Nice numbers man!

Just curious, not sure if you said it since i didn't read all the posts, do you have a goal in mind for the car? Numbers you are hoping for I guess? I am about to venture down the FPblack road myself.

I do have a goal in mind... It will be over 650 but how much more, we will all just have to wait and see. There has been one 2.4 FP black combo to make 719hp, so I know that is not impossible... Just a challenge! Mike and Dirk had that car on Full tilt and didn't worry about blowing the turbo for a number of reason... I for one, don't want to blow my turbo so that may limit me to my boost levels. I won't be taking the turbo to 41psi like Mike at AWD did. I think I will make great power on 37psi.

You should. I could not be any happier with the Black. It spools great and keeps making power. Feels much different than the Red above 6k.

All I want to see my car make on BR's heartbreaker dyno is 500-530 and Ill be pretty happy, those numbers should equate to around 600 on a dynojet. If we happen to hit any higher Ill be happy as a pig in sh*t. I really have no clue what to expect.
