SM. Was 1st event running on 285 30 18 Hoosiers A6s. Just alot of things to get used to:
Not racing for over a season.
New Engine with more power/torque.
Going from 5spd to 6spd. 5spd still needs some mileage/races on it.
Running Hoosiers. Control/Braking much different over Star Specs.

So overall, I think it was a pretty decent showing. I know I left at least another sec out there. Just gotta shake off the rust. This next event should be much larger. So I'll see how well I can do. I've already heard it will be more of a tight course.

How much quicker do you feel the car is on the A6's compared to the Star Specs?

The Star Spec is the only tire built in the size I want to run next year on my RS, I keep wanting to order them but as you know, tires change so fast I hate to leave 8 months of possible new tires on the table and end up wanting something new again in the spring!

Well we ran a "similar" course last year and on that setup, I was about 5 secs slower. Videos never seem to show the real speeds, but you can at least get an idea how close the courses were.

FTD Run this year. Video doesn't do it justice, but the car was hauling *** at the start.

Last Years "Similar" Course

With only a single event under my belt, I'd say it's going to be about 1-2 average difference in times. Maybe more depending on course. You can carry a lot more speed with the hoosiers and brake later on the hoosiers vs the Star Specs. Some of that has to do with the fact I was running 255-35-18 star specs vs the now 285-30-18 A6s.

The other thing to consider is if your org has a Street Tire index for SM. If so, I'd run larger star specs over the hoosiers. The 2 reasons is you get better pax adjustment over regular SM and you don't have to spend a bunch of time swapping wheels.

In the org I was running with in that video, they don't have a Street Tire index, so there is no advantage. You have to run Hoosiers to compete. This upcoming event (Sunday) at Beaver Run is SCCA so they have a Street Tire index.

GT420hp, you were driving an EVO? You were one second behind THIS year's times or last years?

I am not looking to run Hoosier A6's, I need a good street tire, 140+ tread wear. I also want a taller/wider tire and the Star Spec is the only tire that is offered in what I need for sizing. I think I'll order a set. I only do a few events a year, two of which are the events at the two races we put on and Winged Warrior. I have a set of A6's from the NASA Nationals this year I can use if I decide to get serious. Thanks for the information. From watching the video's you can tell a definite difference in the tires but a HUGE difference it seems in power delivery too, do you feel that is the case driving the car?

This year...I missed last years race. I have the silver EVO you just did the E85 tune on a few weeks ago....

Jim Gephart....

I am enjoying the power with the E85 tune...and the BOV is getting put on this week...so I can up my boost past 28psi

The Falken's are my daily driver, auto cross, and drag racing tires....

even run great in the rain

Yeah the Star Specs can't be beat for an autox street tire. The biggest complaint you'll get is that they've raised their prices quite a bit over the last couple years.

I can certainly feel that that the power delivery is much improved on the A6 vs the Star Specs. But I suppose one would expect that to be the case.

Hush now Jim. You've been to plenty more events this season. I should have gotten a rookie time discount of some sort. You coming out to Beaver Run this Sunday?

Oh and this one's for you Jim. haha

Out of the 3 seasons I've been running, I don't think I've got a full season in without some issues. Congrats on the flashlight drag victory.
