Thumbs up SPEC-OPS Built 2.0L EF4 93oct

Afternoon guys,

The customer origanally had a FP Green on his car but he ended up blowing the FP Green. So after that turbo failed we contacted MAP to grab up one of the EF4 turbos that we have heard a lot of great things about. Below are the mods that matter and the dyno on 93oct 30psi.

2006 Evo IX
Spec-Ops Built 2.0l
- 85.8 Wiseco 1400 HD Pistons
- 150 Manley Turbo Tuffs
- L19s/ACL race mains/rods
Spec-Ops Built Head
- GSC S2s
- Supertechs Dual Valve Springs
- 1mm Oversized valves
- JAM no tick lifters
Precision 1200s
ETS 3.5" FMIC
ETS LICP/UICP
3" TBE
Toxicfab 1.5" Runner Manifold
Toxifab 02 Dump
PPI Ported Intake Manifold
PPI 65mm TB
Hallman MBC@30psi
Spec-Ops Speed Density Tune
- 93oct

We were very pleased with how the car turned out. The EF4 is a great turbo and makes great power for what it is. I would like to test some of the other EF series in the future. We have a fully built 2.2l Evo X that may be getting a MAP turbo as well. Stay tuned for more results. As we have 3 other cars to tune tonight/tomorrow - Mikey

nice flat torque curve did you keep it "low" intentionally thought it would be a bit more but every car is different. does the owner run the car daily on 30psi? edit, one more question what does the curve look like below 4k?

It is weight of car plus occupants and cargo. I had someone call BS on the weights on my Virtual Dyno weights when I have a scale at my shop. My buddy is 6'4" and 250lbs and I am 180lbs plus a full tank of gas making the car over 3600lbs.

Not bad mikey, it seems the EF4's are laggy but they make good power.

As far as weight goes batty200 VD is a Estimate remember that and all you do is enter the weight of driver and passenger if need be.

The graph should have started at 2500 and should have had 2byte rpm on the car so we could have shown out to 8500. The car was still climbing at 7500. I didn't even notice that till the customer was already gone.

Going out to tune another car

I do not understand how people can call a stock framed turbo laggy especially on a 2.0L on pump/93. Looking at the graph betweek 4-6K, the power increased from 180whp to 420whp but then just kept climbing to the end of the graph. 500whp on pump/93 out of a stock framed turbo is not bad in my opinion.

For once I agree with you, it's pump vs E85 but its spooling several hundred rpms behind this 2.0L Evo 9. Mikey, any chance he'll be back in the shop in the near future and we can try and troubleshoot the spool?

Chris,

We did try. First it had a nasty boost leak at the Omni 4 bar as the seal broke. We fixed it, everything was tight on the second boost leak test and then we went ahead, tightened the wga arm down, preloaded it properly and got a little bit better spool outta it. We were thinking a different wga option? Open to suggestions......
