Evo 9 FP Green HTA + 93 + windshield washer fluid

This is Dino's Evo 9. We were actually going to tune it on 100% methanol but his methanol went bad. I guess from being stored in a plastic container for to long it just didn't work..

So I told him a quick fix.. get some -20deg windshield washer fluid.. he laughed.. i said im serious.. so he got it.. I used to use this in my old dsm 4g63 and it actually works decent.

So its a 50/50 water/ meth mix .. maybe not 50/50 exactly because there is dye in it and some lubricant.. but nothing that will hurt the engine.

I advised him we would keep the torque very safe and flat across.. he agreed. The engine previously had sustained a lot of abuse from prior tuning sessions.. the rom he sent me was very dangerous so i did not want to take any chances on this vehicle.

I feel the tq curve given and the power in general should make the vehicle last a long life.

also im sure he will respond in here, but he really enjoys driving the car now.. we cleaned up the driveability quite a bit.

Tuning with: tephra v7 + speed density + ecu boost
Fuel: 93octane + 50/50 mix water/meth washer fluid (-20)
Temps outside: 85F

Mod List:

ETS 4" speed density intake
ETS Short route UICP pipe
ETS V2 LICP
Tial Q BOV
GSC S1 cams
FP Green HTA (journal bearing)
Ported coated stock exhaust manifold
Turbo XS 3" TBE no cat
FIC 1100cc
Spoolin Up COP
Spoolin Up SD kit (maf to ait sensor wire)
Grimmspeed 3 Port
ARP head studs
Labonte Methanol progressive injection kit
Exedy Twin HD

In the temps we got now 60-70 i think its a solid 480 car. I'll have him redo some runs in the cooler temps when he gets a chance.

The windshield washer fluid wasn't exactly super effective, i was only able to get 14* max in the vehicle at this 29-30psi of boost pressure.

this car would make an easy 50-60WHP more minimum on e85 all day at the same boost levels.

That's one hell of a tq curve for a green. Haven't run across someone using windshield fluid in a long time. Used to be big in the rotary community tho. Bet he thought u were nuts when u first told him what to do...

Yea washer fluid! Won't into k mart and piled up a case for $11. Eff the gas station for asking $4 a gallon. Car feels great. But the most important and impressive feat is the drivability. Drivability is as close to stock as I have seen on my car. Great job Tom and viva la "secret sauce"

if you have a clone of these mods on e85 its easily over 500. on 93 its easily over 400 as well, as long as the engine has strong compression, etc.

the washer fluid is not so great.. i told him if he throws in some 100% meth new ill retune it again for him just so we can see the differences in this 50/50 mix stuff vs 100% meth..

the car is like 96octane right now or something around there.. im not all that impressed with the washer fluid honestly since i got bottle necked at such low timing.

Yup, I used to run washer fluid on my 3071R RX-8. Haven't seen anybody else in the 4g63 community using it. Another solid tune though tscompusa.

on a setup like this where you delay the torque hit, would it be better to skip the s2's and go to the s3's since thats pretty much the powerband that you would want anyways?

i know the s3's are recommended for 700+hp but the CBRE car had s3's and a green and that thing was fast as hell. what are your thoughts?

Single walbro pump. I've had these cams since they came out and they have worked out well. The only reason I stayed witg them was because I had no intention of doing valve springs at the time.

no need for a double pumper on 93 + meth until around 600whp (estimate)

It would be interesting to see a s3 on a green 2L setup. personally i wouldn't do it unless i had a set of s2 to compare the s3 to though just to know how much i was sacrificing down low.. i would definitely upgrade to a s2 though, there's probably another 30whp in it.

well when you are ready let me know ill get you great prices on parts. you could drive the car here ill do the labor as well.

also lets get some 100% meth in there and see if we cant get this thing closer to 500.

Maybe s2's eventually. The only thing that has held me back was doing the valve springs. Never felt like tackling them lol. I'm going to get a 5 gallon jug of 100% meth and we'll see how we fair I have a feeling you are going to work some magic. Probably next week as I'll be away this upcoming weekend

Speaking from personal experience, I would never do Kelford 272s without doing valve springs again. It might have been fine for a street only car, but 15-10 track days later and I started slapping around my valves with my pistons.

That HTA green can flow pretty good. 100% methanol will definitely case a plastic container some problems!
