BR 2.3RPM, FP Black and issues.....

This is a car we have here for a build now. BR 2.3RPM engine, BR cylinder head, BR double pumper, 2000 cc injectors, AEM Series 2, FP Black, Ported coated stock manifold, SS 02 housing. I've been fighting some knock with the build. This is actually two cars, two days in a row. The first car was yesterday, plagued with the same problem but stock ECU. Both the cars have 3" exhausts on the original style AMS FMIC intercoolers. This car I am able to log AIT's with the AEM. As you can see the power peaks at only 6500 rpm and then starts to drop. In order to keep the knock counts in check I have to trim some timing based on AIT's (air intake temps) and then the knock sensor is also making some adjustments. Not ideal. I THOUGHT that was the issue on the stock ECU car I was tuning yesterday as the car would run nice after a long cool down and then every run after would get worse. This car is the same way. This car has a crap exhaust on it that isn't 3" through the muffler so it's adding to the problem. The biggest issue though is the high AIT's. This particular run the AIT started at 64.40 degrees. At the end of 4th gear which only takes 5.88 seconds, the temps climbed to a completely unacceptable 116.6 degrees. That's a 52.2 degree increase in temp in a single gear pull! The pull before this one took 6.6 seconds and resulted in a 54 degree increase! This car is going to Florida and is used for drag, street, autocross and road racing. There's no way this is going to work out well in Florida heat.

There is a reason we sell a lot of our Race FMIC's and this is one of them. The car is going to sit so we can fix the crap exhaust and put our Race FMIC on it. I'd expect a 30+ whp increase and no more power falling off up top.

The only other part of the car I am skeptical about is the cams, we've had knock issues with the cams being used in this car, in the EVO8's. I'll post up the finished results next week.

My AIT's are great in my Evo! Even tho im on E85 i no AIT's will be lower then pump gas, but every BR product ive ever bought has been great and IMO is truly the best out there in the Evo world IMO. The BR FMIC is great only thing i dont like about it is, my Evo 9 front bumper doesn't like it too much, fitment is kind of rough.

I suspect it may be ebay knock-off of AMS part. There are a lot of 'em out there.

Damn, if a car is gaining that much on the dyno, it will be 2X worse on the track. I've seen 15 degree gains on the dyno turn into 70 degree gains going down the track for 10 seconds.

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding but are you saying the AMS fmic is a bad fmic or the one he had was causing issues

Maybe the guy doesn't have a catch can? Clogged inter cooler? Oil in the cooler

I think if it were the cams the car would knock the same consistently .

Good luck. Troubleshooting these things sure suck!

I think he was simply stating he had 2 cars with similar FMIC's and they both were suffering from higher then normal intake temps.

Interesting about the intercooler. I have the same one and I was getting 1 degree of creep on the dyno on a 62* night. I'm running the stock turbo though at 89% duty cycle on the boost controller. I'll be switching to a black soon and I'll certainly keep an eye on iat's.
