This forum makes me scratch my head sometime. Emery swears by the Kelfords (Which i personally ran in my car with excellent results, tuned by him) and dislikes the GSC's; Everyone online seems to think the opposite!

Now the time has come to pick a 280/s3/m3 type cam and I'm back in the same dilemma.

Anyways,

I'm interested in seeing what this motor can do once the issues are resolved.

Is the 2.3RPM able to spin higher due to the lightweight billet crank, or is it additional magic?

i went 133.16mph on kelford 272 making me #6 fastest stock frame of this year.. i don't think the cams are that bad.

The gsc s3 i have in my car right now are much louder then the kelfords ever were "WOT".

price wise the kelfords cant compete with gsc though.. performance wise its a pretty level ground. in turn, gsc sells more. I am very happy with both brands though at the end of the day.

but on another note.. obviously David doesn't want neither cams in this car. he wants his BF 272 in here..Cant really blame a guy for wanting his brand of cams in the car that he knows very well vs others and knows what they are going to do performance wise. Same with the FMIC.

I am staying out of the debate, but i have nothing but good things to say about my BR Race FMIC and it fits fine on a evo 9 front bumper when its installed properly with his lower piping.

Tom,

Not disagreeing but adding what I have experienced-

The only time I have seen S3s be noisy in a car was with Supertech dual springs. Kiggly or GSC springs and they are fine.

Sobo, just stating what I have experienced. The Kelford 280/276 will make power but idle a little more radically than I like for the power they make. The S3 makes the same or more power and seems to be better behaved.

I pulled up some logs for reference. I run a Garrett core 24x12x3.5" shown below.

Here are what my logs show:

1st - 3rd gear run on the street at ~30psi and 92F ambient temps
Run duration: 6.7s
IAT Start Temp: 95F
IAT End Temp: 100F

3rd gear run on dyno at ~30psi and 92F outside temps (inside temps cooler)
Run duration: 7.2s
IAT Start Temp: 82F
IAT End Temp: 89F

I think Kelfords seem to perform better in Evo VIII's and GSC's S3's do better in mivec motors.

both cams you mentioned are about equal for both platforms. i never had a issue with kelfords under performing on either a 8 or a 9. same with gsc s2 and gsc s3.

David was getting one together fairly quickly. They're also doing some work on the exhaust system to fix the crappiness...

He'll prolly have it back on the dyno within a week or so.
Very excited!!!

So if the FMIC is 5-6 years old, what are the odds that it's not working at peak performance anymore? IMO it's way too easy to read too much into this. I don't doubt that there will be power gains by going from a 5 year old IC to a newer, bigger IC. No need for everyone to sensationalize.

My setup is 6 years old, never been touched and works well. If you have sent oil residue through the intercooler it will likely affect efficiency due to an inability to properly transfer heat. A good plan would be to remove the intercooler and fill it with a few quarts of acetone. Cap off both ends and swish it around making sure you contact all of the inner surfaces and do a thorough job. I recommend acetone because it will evaporate quickly and doesn't leave a film on the metal like mineral spirits. Gas may also be an option, but I would have to research to see if it leaves a residue on the metal. You may also want to clean the outside as well.
