Driving Without a Tune Good OR Bad Idea??

Hello EvoM

I need some tuning/Tech advice before i install my turbo kit. OK so i have an 03 Evo VIII and i was planning to install a 6466 turbo kit from STM. Also i also have the supporting mod to run that turbo with the kits ofcourse( Fuel,Injectors And etc).

Know i live about 200 miles away from Buschur(Driving must of the time on the freeways to get to his shop), what i was going to do is install my 6466 turbo kit and drive it to him to install my AEM S2 and tune it.

THIS IS what i Need Tech help and advice, can run the car with turbo install (Running Stock boost/Stock MAF/Stock injectors) without a tune and drive to Buschur to he can tune it for me.

Do you guys know/think/recommend i can drive the car with the big turbo without blowing up my motor or causing the car to not run correctly all the way to Buschur ???

Reason why i want to install it and drive it to Buschur, is because then i wont get question or pulled over in US customs and i need to keep my stock setup for emissions reasons. THANK YOU FOR THE HELP

Mods- IF i posted this thread in the wrong section, Please move it to the correct section. Thanks

200 miles is a long distance to stay 100% out of boost. I wouldn't risk it.

Turning the car to NO BOOST and driving 55mph the whole way there... that would help. It's still not exactly a good idea though. Mostly because even on stock injectors, set at stock boost levels, that 6466 is going to be pulling NOT stock airflow. Even at part throttle your trims could end up being way out once that monkey starts spinning.

Like the post above me..second that gerbil starts moving your fuel trims are going to go stupid lean.. there's no hope in making it 200 highway miles to buschur. Your best bet is to see if david can throw together a map for you just for driving it over there at best. I'd hate to see you lean out your AFR and need a new motor. Safe your self the trouble and either:
A) drive there and THEN swap turbo etc
B) Have them do it
C) See about temp map for AEM to drive on it safely to them

I thought about that too. Until i called them and get a quote for the truck and the trailer. First of all before i tell you guys how much it cost me, Things in canada are little bit more pricy then the state. it wold have cost me with taxes, $350-$400. For that much money, i could just have Buschur install it for me and buy the guys lunch too . I just wanted to see what you guys say about install the kit and drive it.

I think that installing a turbo kit would cost you more than 400$ most big shops around here charge 1k for that

you'll be fine, just dont go into boost or do any wot pulls. should be easy to stay out of boost with a 6466.
If they are mostly 200 highway miles on flat land, thats even better

Dont risk it. Imagine NO EVO for however long it takes you to rebuild your motor. Or Do what EVO VIIIFL suggested and get a limp mode tune to get it there. whatever you decide to do make sure it does not consist of blowing up your baby.

Why don't you contact Buschur and see what they say?
