As long as the tuner is worth their salt, doesnt push the torque crazy, the stock block can handle it It's detonation or excessive torque on stock rods. There are tuners that like to run as much timing as the can down low (and maybe knock free) but they fail to realise what that does to cylinder head temp by the time they are at 6k.

I have seen cracked pistons in 4G63s that I never thought would happen before it kicked a rod out but its relative to the overall tune. Evo X do it because of ring gap and the same scenario. The tuners that make HUGE torque down low (on a 2.0L) dont realise the crap they're setting themselves up for down the road...or they plan on blaming the owner, who knows.

Stock 9.8cm 2003 turbo + small cams. I have the same combo more or less but with S2s that did 394/444 on 92 octane but honestly makes similar power out the top.

I'm building something very similar with a TD05HRA-16G6-9.8T (my orginal 7 turbo) and S2s as well. Thanks for the info.

Nice #'s for the turbo used. Now that the nice built engine is in place, I think a nice pte 6266 dbb would make a nice addition.

Brandon's 394whp pull had a Titek O2 housing where the 349whp car has a stock O2 housing still. That is a pretty big difference as far as torque but obviously will affect peak power as well.

So I was thinking the turbo runs out of juice but then the S2 pops in and makes nearly 50hp and 100ftlb/s and then there is talk of the O2 housing holding things back. 02=50hp and 100ftlb/s?! Any thoughts on how the S3 would have rocked?

To answer some questions:

The stock block did me justice for a long time. Was pretty much these mods except for a stock 2.0 and lasted 92k with original turbo. However had what Im thinking the tensioner fail and caused my timing to skip and crashed my valves into piston #1. Block was still good, but figured to go to a 2.4 set up. Original numbers were 304whp/312 tq tuned by English.

The exact mods are:

-Buschur supplied internals
10:1 compression
Manley turbo tuff rods
Manley pistons

-HKS 264 intake 272 exhaust ( original owner of car had these new in box and decided to go with them since when i bought the evo it was new on the market and these were the some of the best cams at the time) Plan on swapping to larger with turbo upgrade

-Ported head with +1 supertech valves with GSC titanium springs and retainers

-Ported stock exhaust manifold

-Walbro 255 fuel pump

- Injen intake and intercooler pipes

-Eboost 2 setup

-3" downpipe with magnaflow exhaust (also on car when i bought it)

Far as my intentions in the future with the vehicle. Funds got low, so going to break car in and over next couple months upgrade intercooler, injectors, fuel pump, etc.. basically to get ready to run the larger turbo. At the time still a little undecided with what turbo route to go.

Its not one or the other, its the combination of the 2. O2 housing is way more pronounced down low based on other cars we have tested and cams make the difference up top where backpressure has already started to drop off.
