Work done at Pure Tuning in Ohio

Good evening fellow EVO owners!

So, I finally decided to open this up to other members of EVOm and I wanted to get some feedback from everyone. Last February I took my EVO to Pure Tuning down in Ohio and I had some work done. I had some boost leaks fixed (due to poor idle quality), preventative maintenance work, and finally a tune was done. All in all, I spent $1,734 on work. Even after the tune, the car wasn't idling right after they performed "their tune." The car especially doesn't like to stay running in the cold and the idle tends to surge from time-to-time. After the tune, my car came out to 341 hp @ 25 psi to the wheels with a decent amount of mods. I was assuming with these mods, that I would have been closer to 400 hp to the wheels. I have attached invoices and my tune, and I would like other peoples input on this.

Mods include:
EVO 9 turbo, JMfab02 housing, Tomei upgraded wastegate, custom intercooler piping and MAF tube, DS sports downpipe, APexi N1 stainless exhaust and muffler, Buschur street FMIC, Injector dynamics 1000cc injectors, Synapse synchronic BOV (set to recirc), Kelford 264 camshafts, rebuilt OE TB, ARP headstuds, AEM cam gears, AEM fuel rail, ARC airbox, gates racing reinforced timing belt, JMfab small battery kit, Odyssey FMJ battery, custom grounding kit, hallman manual boost controller, Samco radiator hoses, and an Exedy MM022HD twinplate heavy duty clutch with flywheel.

Thanks

Pure Tuning

I do not think they have a dynojet dynamometer. I think it is a mustang so your low reading might not be as bad as you think. They have tuned a lot of Evo's. I would talk to them about your idle issue.

I dont think it would hit 400whp at 25psi with any tuner especially with those small cams and small catback. Id take a look at the gsc s3 cams, a true 3" catback and a 3 port ebc, that should definitely get u there. U can always just get a magnaflow muffler and replace ur apexi fart can to save some money

If your still having issues, you should talk to them about it instead of us. See what they are willing to do. If your having idle issues it could of been something that was overlooked and a quick easy fix that they would probably do for free.

You have baby cams in your car and if it's a mustang Dyno on 93 oct like these guys are saying that's pretty good power. I would just take the car back to them to address your idle situation I'm sure if they are reputable it won't be a problem. Good luck

Pure tunings dyno is a mustang dyno. My car put down 399 whp on their dyno at 24psi on my fp green hta. I was on pump gas with kelford 272s also. So your numbers seem about right. I like the guys there some complain that their prices may be a little high but they do damn good work and always take their time to let you kniw of any problems your car has or is going to have.

Did you contact them about your idle issue?

Also, I went there a few years ago. I called them and asked it they could tune a turbo XS Utec. They said yes, so I bought one and brought it to them. Needless to say they couldnt figure out how to tune and and charged me 200 bucks for looking at it and I was out another 300 for the Utec. Not thrilled with that whole situation.

Their prices seem to be pretty steep as well. Especially for that throttle body rebuild service. $550 bucks total!!!! Are you effing kidding me? They could have sold you a boomba for the less and they charged you an hour labor to install it. And $115 for hardware? High pressure seals are $20 from MAP. It takes less then 20 minutes to put one on.

Lets get back to your compression tests. One cylinder was 18 psi less than 2 cylinders. They probably should have done a leak down to figure out where you are losing compression.

Those numbers seem right, I am on 91 Octane, almost the same bolt-ons (CHECK OUT MY SIG) and my car came out with 297hp and 308tq @23 psi on a Mustang Dyno @ 25PSI I hit 314HP and 320TQ. Did your idle problem happen before or after CAMS were installed? If the idle issue happened after, I know my tuner used a stubby flat or crosstip and adjusted a little valve on the right side of the intake manifold. My .02s. Good luck. Myustang Dynos are greedy IMO, but I rather have strong numbers on a Mustang than a VD or any other. Good luck with your car.
